PREGAME NOTES:

  • Hideki Matsui is getting the day off for some unknown reason.  You would think that a smart guy like Girardi would realize that sitting his best hitter all season the day after the team struggled to score runs would be a bad idea.  Matsui is also the near everyday DH so I don't understand the need to rest him.
  • Brian Bannister is a lifetime 1-1, 8.10 ERA, 1.90 WHIP in 2 starts against the Yanks, including 1-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.80 WHIP in 2008.
  • Andy Pettitte is a lifetime 12-3, 3.06 ERA, 1.26 WHIP in 20 games (18 starts) against the Royals, including 1-0, 1.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP in 2008.

Let's go Yanks!

Hopefully we can start to string together some wins. We’re getting further and further into the season and we are still hovering around .500, not good.

Hopefully Andy's years in Houston

will give him superhuman protection from heat on the mound today.

True. It is hot! The temperature gauge in my car says its 98 out there.

I just hope Andy is not starting to feel the effects (elbow) of not being on the juice.

Damn! Andy still seems to be suffering

from effects of teh suck. Hopefully he will bounce out of it soon.

I was moving in my apartment the other day,

and I sat down and reread a little bit of The Last Night of The Yankee Dynasty as I moved. It happened to be the part about noticing which players never got up to watch the flight of the ball for home runs to left field.

Bobby Abreu didn’t even notice let alone move.

Pettitte shouldn't have even pitched this inning.

Girardi must be terrified of using anyone in the bullpen.

He has seemed a little slow with the hook

which is ironic because I always thought that Torre pulled his starters too early.

girardi

What is he doing? How could you not go righty-righty there with veras

I can’t believe he left him out there. In this heat, and in that situation, unless Andy talked him into staying in, terrible move by Girardi.

I think I’m jumping on the Girardi hate train for the time being.

It is slowly becoming more and more evident, at least to me, that he is being out-managed. He is a fairly new manager, so he can use that card with me. However, I can’t help but wonder where this team would be right now still under Torre or Mattingly.

Seems the Yankee brass finally got a manager they can control. Whenever Girardi is asked about a team decision regarding the roster, he always responds with… “Well, me and Cash will have to sit down and talk about it.” You would never hear that statement from Torre.

Is it too much

for Girardi to realize that there will be no save, and to use Mo in the 9th?

maybe you could have snagged a ticket from one of the season ticket holders behind homeplate

who left after the 4th inning… Good luck getting into the bleachers though

Mo should have stayed in

He was fresh and who else do they have? Girardi has been terrible. Pettitte should have been pulled against JG, but then you look at what he has to work with. I still would have pulled him though and gave Veras a chance. I could understand it a little better if JG hadn’t killed Andy all day…But it’s so nice ot have Posada back…
