Kennedy in Tampa
Our hero Ian Kennedy had a start for Tampa today on his route back. 5 innings noruns, 2 hits 1 BB 4 K's.
The sooner this young man takes the ball from Rasner Giese and Ponson the better I'll feel.
I know what you're all going to say. He hasn't shown much this year. Well I think the arm was bothering him more than we were let to know. If he's right he'll be good. Remember what he did at the end of last year.

I think he will be fine.

Girardi on IPK
From Tyler Kepner’s NY Times blog
Ian Kennedy threw five shutout innings for Class A Tampa on Saturday, but Joe Girardi is not closely tracking his progress. Kennedy is no longer rehabilitating his strained lat muscle, Girardi stressed Sunday morning.
"This is him getting right," Girardi said. "He’s not on the D.L. now. This is earning his way back, just like the other 175 players or so in the minors."
That’s quite a comedown for Kennedy, considering the way the Yankees touted him before this season. But it makes sense. Kennedy was 0-3 with a 7.41 E.R.A. before his injury, and he had already been sent to the minors once.
The Yankees have two fill-in starters now (Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson), but Girardi said Kennedy needs to prove that he deserves to be here.
"That’s the thing," Girardi said. "You have to pitch well to earn your spot back."
Good for Girardi, I hope IPK read this. I think one of IPK’s problems was over-confidence. He’s not a talented enough pitcher to throw his glove on the field and get major league hitters out. It’s not only about getting his arm right, it’s getting his head right too.
"Well, that kind of puts a damper on even a Yankees win."

Agreed
He came off cocky to me earlier in the year, and I think he needed a good bitch-slapping. I’ve somehow managed to conjure an image of Girardi in a dominatrix costume with a whip and IPK groveling at his feet. I’m probably not right.
Nevertheless, IPK needed some humbling, and I’m hopeful he’ll use it in the right way and come back strong.
