PREGAME NOTES:

  • Pete Abe reports that Ian Kennedy is scheduled to start a rehab game on Monday for the Gulf Coast Yankees and will be limited to 50 pitches.  He also notes that Phil Hughes will start playing catch on Wednesday, so his return is likely 6 weeks away.
  • The Reds make their first appearance at Yankee Stadium since the 'Big Red Machine' invaded the Bronx and swept the Yanks in the 1976 World Series.
  • Jorge Posada is out of the lineup tonight because Moose is comfortable with Molina behind the plate and tomorrow is a day game.  Posada is expected to be behind the plate tomorrow and Sun.
  • Edinson Volquez has never faced the Yanks.  He is 4-1, 1.50 ERA, 1.05 WHIP in 7 starts on the road this season.
  • Mike Mussina is a lifetime 0-1, 10.13 ERA, 1.69 WHIP in one start against the Reds.  He is 9-1, 3.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP over his last 11 starts and has just 8 walks over a span of 61 IP.
  • Reds' hitters vs. Moose can be viewed here.  Yanks' hitters vs. Volquez can be viewed here.

Griffey

They were talking about on the quick pre-game, but Griffey is (or I guess was is the more appropriate term) the best all around player I’ve ever seen in person.

Hard to belive he hasn’t played in the Stadium in about 10 years. I remember him terrorizing us like it was yesterday.

No doubt

Griffey and Edgar Martinez were just as terrorizing in the mid-90s as Ortiz and Manny has been the last few years.

Thats amazing....

I cant believe that a NL team actually scored first…...

Worthy of note....

The Yanks, Red Sox, O’s and Rays have a combined 26-9 record in Interleague play coming into tonight’s action.

I was wondering what did Ricardi say to Dunn?

by MedFan on Jun 20, 2008 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

On Wednesday night, a caller to Ricciardi’s radio show suggested that a deal for Dunn might help the struggling Toronto offense, and Ricciardi responded bluntly. “Do you know the guy doesn’t really like baseball that much?” Ricciardi said. “Do you know the guy doesn’t have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player?

There’s a reason why you’re attracted to some players and there’s a reason why you’re not attracted to some players. I don’t think you’d be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here.”

he's an idiot

he’s always giving off the air that he know more than everyone else… it’s nice to see him get knowcked down a couple pegs.

I happen to agree with him

about Dunn about his play on the field. But it was really stupid for a GM to say that about another player on the air.

Not too bright.

Without the radio show

it sounds like something Hank Steinbrenner would do.

by anaconda on Jun 20, 2008 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

ha...probably

... a GM just can’t make comments like that about a player he has no personal relationship with.

Has anyone watched Jeremy Bleich pitch for Stanford?

He was the Yanks’ #44 overall pick.

He looks like he has the goods to be a pretty good major leaguer. He’s got some Andy Pettitte in him.

Bleich

will be pitching on ESPN at 2pm tomorrow against Georgia.

Yep....

I had the TiVo set today to watch the game but the rainout pushed it back to tomorrow. I’m going to watch that game because the Yanks’ game is blacked out for me anyways.

His last two starts against Cal State Fullerton and last weekend against FSU were both pretty impressive outings against two very good teams.
