New Blog: Sounder At Heart for Seattle Sounders Fans!

The Yankees’ reluctance to use Britton has been confounding to many Yankees bloggers, and Brian Cashman sounded similarly baffled when asked about Britton on Wednesday. Cashman said he would never tell his manager how to run a game, but he seemed hopeful that Joe Girardi would give Britton more of a chance.

"It’s about opportunity," Cashman said. "He has not failed in any capacity at any level. Every chance he’s gotten, he’s had success, period. That’s what defines Chris Britton. I can’t tell you any more than that."

Why doesn’t Britton pitch? When no obvious reason exists, I can’t help falling back on look-ist reasons. Maybe Girardi doesn’t like ballplayers with guts?

Endorsement

Hopefully a positive endorsement from the GM will convince Girardi to use him a bit more often, but we’ll see. I certainly bet he could perform better than one or two of our current middle relievers though.

KING OF THE BRITTONS

We gotta see Britton in there. I would bring Chris Britton in a game before Latroy Hawkins in any situation, I dont care what the textbook says.
We have a few good pitchers in AAA that I hope get the shot to come in and try to give the bullpen a different look. I believe this bullpen has the potential to be that pen the Yankees have been missing the past few years, even with Joba starting.

Britton Bonkers ...

I agree with everything that has been said. I’ve also poured over Al Gore’s Internet searching for any negative press about Britton. I find nothing. This is a guy with a quality arm who I thought we stole from Baltimore. I don’t see evidence of an injury anywhere, either, so I’m befuddled, perplexed, confused as to why (hold on to your seats) Girardi would continue tapping Hawkins and Farnsworth when both have shown nothing but inconsistency. Give the ball to the kid and let him perform. He’s not going to do any worse than Farnsworth or Hawkins.

He's too fat

Girardi has no tolerance for fat people.

Everyone came into camp in shape, coaches included, except for Britton. And he threw all the snacks out of the clubhouse.

He just doesn’t like being around fatties. I know a few people who feel the same way, which is why they avoid me.

Girardi should be more concerned about his pen getting hitters out rather than what the scale says when said reliever stands on it.

But, hey, that’s just me. It would seem that beggars can’t be choosers.

But Britton

did shed some weight. It’s just that when you start the size of one of Jupiter’s moons, you have to shed more than some before Joe G. will take you seriously.
