Wang Done, Season Done

We lose our best pitcher who also would give us more innings per start than the rest of the staff and meant less innings for this shaky bullpen. Without him they are cooked.  Let's not forget Boston hasn't had Schilling for the entire season, no Dice-K for almost 3 weeks Buchhoolz was bad, and Wakefield had been shaky until running off three solid starts in a row. And Boston is 10--4 without David Ortiz  and still has plenty of offense to back up one of the best staff's in the league.

The bottom line is that the Yankee's team ERA with Wang in the rotation is 4.27 and the Red Sox are at 3.83. We now subtract Wang and they'll soon add Dice-K. WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR.

I am just pointing out that you have panicked quickly

Joba just joined the rotation and looks as good as we’d hoped. IPK is almost readyy to throw rehab. Rasner has been good and Giese’s record in Scranton and few innings for the Yanks indicate he might be ready to be an adequate spot starter and long man. Our rotation has Moose Pettitte and Joba for the rest of this year. Rasner has earned a spot. So, the only open spot we have is Wang’s. We have disabled pitchers by the handful, IPK is almost ready, Hughes is not far behind him. We have Giese for a few starts.

This rotation can win the division without a move. There is time to make a move if more bad stuff happens. The year is far from over.

You’ll have plenty of time to eat your words soon enough.

it does seem so

This is not good news at all. The problem here is that the Yankees organization will never let “Wait til next year” become an acceptable strategy. Especially with mini-idiot-Hank in charge. Unfortunately what is going to happen is that we’re going to make a trade for a starter or two and mortgage some young talent like Melancon or Cox or Gonzales. Every team will know how desperate we are and will settle for nothing less. Our only hope is for Kennedy to turn things around and start pitching like he’s capable of and for Hughes to do the same. Joba will need to turn it up also and Pettitte will need to pitch like it’s 1996. I don’t think Sabathia is the answer because his price tag will be too high. Maybe if Houston keeps falling, Roy Oswalt? Joe Blanton perhaps?

horsesh*t

Wang had actually been underperforming for the past several weeks and was a main reason the team couldn’t drag their butts above .500

While he since had two terrific starts, he has not been a model of consistency this year.

One pitcher can make a team, but the converse is not always true. And I don’t believe it is here either.

Time will tell, but I think you’re seriously overreacting without considering that Boston is also leading the division with a LOSING road record and a 4 x’er coming up in 2 weeks in NY.

NY Times had Cashman saying there are no trades to be made—could be holding back, but he could also be telling it like it is: if we didn’t clean out the cupboards for Santana, why would you clean them out now?

Do not expect much info from Cashman

The Yankees like playing their cards close to the vest. You’ll know what he’s thinking by what he does. Don’t expect him to do his work in the open if he can avoid it.

Reaching for the panic button ...

I don’t think our season is done because Wang goes down with an injury. We really only need a #4 or #5 guy, and I think we can find someone in SWB—Karstens, Marquez, to fit the bill.

I wouldn’t rule out Cashman making some type of move, but as Cbeck said, he stays dark until he strikes.

This is just a bump in the road.
