PREGAME NOTES:
- Kyle Farnsworth has been out of action since Thursday with a tender bicep, but is likely available tonight after throwing in the pen this afternoon. With Mo unavailable tonight after pitching the last four games, you can bet Farnsworth will be the interim closer if needed. Yikes.
- Justin Duchscherer is a lifetime 0-1, 6.75 ERA, 1.75 WHIP in 7 games (all in relief) against the Yanks.
- Darrell Rasner is a lifetime 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP in one start against the Athletics.
- Yanks' career numbers vs. Duchscherer can be viewed here. Athletics' career numbers vs. Rasner can be viewed here.
- Finally, Chad Jennings reported earlier today that J.B. Cox has been placed on the 7-day DL. Still no word yet on the status of his injury, but this is at least a temporary blow to the Yanks in need of some bullpen help.

Ok Rasner
There’s your run. Make it stand up.

Rasner looks sharp threw 2.
What are the A’s wearing black this year? They look atrocious. Black jersey’s and green helmets with a yellow brim doesn’t look good. They should bring back the yellow jerseys if they want an alternate. Although, they might have to fend off the bee’s.

Funny you posted that. I actually had to wear that uniform. I was on the Astros in Babe Ruth League.

I wasn't
terrible, but I was small and not fast, so I got thrown out on a lot of grounders to third that other guys beat out. That kind of kills the Little League batting average. Plus, around that time I started to get into acting- and there were more girls in theater than there were in the dugout.

Sterling on
the Yanks failure to get a sac fly.
Some numbers:
Men on the corners, one out in the 3rd: the Yankees had 67% odds of winning the game.
Without scoring a run in the bottom of the 3rd: the Yankees had a 54% chance of winning.
It hurts, but it doesn’t kill us.
I’m still searching for stats on what percentage of runners on 3rd actually score so I can compare it to the Yankees’ performance this season. If anybody knows how to get that, please let me know.
Meanwhile, a Giambi error has turned into an Oakland rally…

I guess
Rasner was due for a bad outing.
He’s been behind the last 5 hitters- all five stung the ball.

Rasner
could have hurt himself trying to catch that “throw” by Giambi. This has turned into BP all of a sudden.
Crap throw aside, is the Giambino an All Star this year?

Just checked the ballot
Where have all the first baseman gone? Scary lack of production at first in the AL this year.
Looks like Youkilis will win the vote.
Then there’s Morneau and Giambi, and a steep drop off until the next qualified candidate.

My ballot reads
Posada, Giambi, Cano, Rodriguez, Jeter, Damon, Cabrera, Abreu, Matsui.
Fan voting is stupid- and if I was smart enough to create a bot I’d have some real fun with the All-Star game.

Who think we should showcase good old Hawkings tonight?
by MedFan on Jun 11, 2008 11:22 PM EDT 0 recs
Not a bad idea
I was more worried about how to convince Joe G. that Ohly is not a long reliever. Ranser is at 75- with one out. If he gets to 85 I bet he’s done for the night.

Hard to say
Depends on how he performs in the next couple of weeks, and who wants him.
I’d consider a AA player with a shot at being a utility guy worthwhile. If you can get someone else to take the whole salary, it’d be worth it just to fill a spot in Scranton or Trenton. AAA is going to need something along the lines of an inning-eater to pick up the slack for all the pitchers going up and down to MLB.

Not sure, honestly
I can’t pretend I’ve been following the team as closely as I’d normally like this last week, but I haven’t heard much since he went on the DL.
He hasn’t started his rehab yet.

Well if we are shopping Hawkins...
Might as well put him on display. A’s fans chanting “Yankees suck.” didn’t think they would do that in Oakland.

Why not?
It’s the one thing you can count on in every stadium- even when the fans are so uninterested in the game they’ll start the wave, you can always get a Yankees Suck chant going.

what a good boy lets make room for Cox and Melancon?

Speaking of Melancon....
Melancon pitched another two perfect innings tonight for Trenton. He’s now at 47.0 IP on the season.
To answer my own question from last week, it appears that the hierarchy is indeed taking his pitch counts into consideration because he’s been breezing through these last few appearances without breaking a sweat.
I had wondered about that because he was averaging roughly 10 pitches per inning his last several outings, so he was eating up 3 or 4 IP but only throwing 30-40 pitches.

Does anyone read the pregame notes?
Sometimes, I wonder. I mentioned Cox going on the DL already.
Anyways, Hughes and Kennedy will probably spend time down in Scranton and maybe that will help them get their mojo back.
Hopefully, Rasner’s start last night was just a bad night and not a sign of things to come. I’ve always thought he was a temporary fix, but I hope he continues to pitch well because Hughes won’t be back for awhile and Kennedy is still at least a couple of weeks away.
