Xavier Nady

Nady can play 1B and is better defensively in RF than is Abreu.  He's also on a hotter offensive tear than either Abreu or Giambi (though Abreu has still been one of our better hitters so far this season).  There are often rumors he could be traded to a contender.  Should it be our Yankees?

And to fill up the stupid length requirement, I will just type another sentence that is nineteen words long.

Maybe--if Giambi is still slumping through the All-Star break and we don't have to give up too much for Nady

No

Nady always starts off the season with fiery numbers, and looks like a great player and excellent trade bait. However, by the end of the season we’re reminded why he’s not in the same place for too long: he’s decidedly mediocre.

We already have replacements for Giambi in the form of Duncan, Ensberg, and Betemit, all who are just as capable of putting up Nady-like numbers by the end of the season. However, if a better option presents itself (Mark Texiera-like character), maybe we’ll see a new 1B-man. We’ll have to wait and see.

If Giambi is still OBPing in the .300’s and hitting homers like he did today, he probably won’t be going anywhere unless his average stays below .200 by the break.

No

We have Nady’s equal as DS36 says (what’s with THAT).

We also have to face the fact that Posada may be done catching. He doesn’t want to be a switch hitting first baseman, but that may be what he is for the next several years.

We cannot waste resources at first until we know.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

We've got too many ...

First basemen who can’t hit already.
Let’s hold off until we can throw a big going away party for Giambi, and bring in Tex!

Yep

Precisely my thoughts. No point in giving up players or prospects to obtain someone who is of no long term use to us, especially since we’re in a rebuilding stage.
