PREGAME NOTES:
- First off, Ian Kennedy will make his 2008 debut for Scranton tonight against the Charlotte Knights (ChiSox). I'll be sure to keep you posted on his outing.
- Pete Abe reports that A-Rod will begin baseball-related activities tomorrow and notes the tentative plan is to have him work out in Tampa on Thursday and perhaps play a couple of rehab games next Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully, he will be activated a week from tomorrow.
- Wilson Betemit has been activated from the 15-day DL and Alberto Gonzalez has been sent back down to Scranton. I know I'm not alone when I say Gonzalez is by far the more useful player to this team and would rather see Betemit gone.
- Fausto Carmona is a lifetime 0-1, 3.86 ERA in 5 games (2 starts) against the Yanks.
- Andy Pettitte is a lifetime 6-8, 4.63 ERA in 17 starts against the Tribe, including the short end of a 6-4 defeat on April 25. Hard to believe, but Pettitte has not beaten the Tribe at Yankee Stadium since June of '96.
- Yanks' career numbers vs. Carmona can be viewed here. Tribe career numbers vs. Pettitte can be viewed here.
- By now, most of you have probably heard about A-Rod wussing out in the delivery room while C-Rod was giving birth to their first child. Pretty funny stuff and something else he will probably never live down.

Update II
Ian Kennedy:
4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HBP—48 pitches, 31 strikes
Has thrown a first pitch strike to 7 of 13 batters. I’d like to see that number improve.
Update III
Ian Kennedy:
5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HBP – 60 pitches, 41 strikes
Has thrown a first pitch strike to 10 of 16 hitters.
Update IV
Ian Kennedy:
6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP – 72 pitches, 48 strikes
Has thrown a first pitch strike to 12 of 21 hitters. Gave up his first hit of the night in the 6th.
Update V
Ian Kennedy:
7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HBP – 83 pitches, 55 strikes
Has thrown a first pitch strike to 13 of 24 hitters.
The kid is pitching a helluva game. Hopefully, this is his first step in getting his mojo back.
Update VI
Final pitching line on Kennedy:
7.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 1 HBP – 89 pitches, 58 strikes
Threw a first pitch strike to 14 of 25 hitters. Tough to find anything wrong with this performance, but I’d like to see him throw more first pitch strikes.
im planning on catching scranton
in indianapolis this weekend when they play a weekend set here.
any word on the pitching probables for those games?

If they don't mess with his spot
Kennedy’s next start would be Sunday. Luis Munoz is pitching for Indy tonight and it would be his turn to go on Sunday as well.
The minor league teams usually don’t post their probable starters that far in advance.
A good sign
Yankee starters have now thrown 6.0 IP in their last 4 games. And the team is 15-0 on the season when that happens.
wow.. that's pretty incredible..
and andy’s going back out for the 7th..
The Jayfiss Report ...one fan's rants
Farnsworth warming up
It’s a one run game, Joba is fully rested (I think), and if they’re really going to move him this summer he needs to start throwing multiple innings.
Why Farnsworth and not Joba????
Plus there’s a man on base now and Kyle can’t use his new windup.
Even if Farns survives this is doesn’t seem all that logical.

I have to agree
Sooner or later, the real Farnsworth will resurface. I just hope it doesn’t happen tonight.
Girardi should be giving the ball to Joba right now.
have they shown
any midge coverage? (just gettting in)

Farnsworth pitching well is kind of bitter sweet
Everyone knows he’s going to unravel sooner or later. It’s inevitable. He’s never been able to put it together for an entire season and there’s no reason to believe this season will be the first.
I guess the only thing you can do is take advantage of it while he’s pitching well but the problem with that is he’s going to be trusted more by Girardi in crucial situations.
Farnsworth is going to get a couple of days off though with his suspension looming. I’m sure it’ll be reduced from 3 games to 2 games and probably start serving it tomorrow.
the papers today said
that he trusts Girardi and Girardi believes in him so maybe it’s worth something. WIth Krazy Kyle, everything is mental. Did you hear about the stuffed turkey?
Now how hard is it to kill a turkey?

Don't look now...
but Matsui is now hitting .342 on the season with three hits tonight. With A-Rod out at least another week – Matsui, Damon, and Melky doesn’t need anymore days off.
Seemed like
he couldn’t control where his fastball was going so he shied away from it.
Beaning the umpire in the leg with a fastball is a pretty good sign that a pitcher is a little off.

Dellucci hit a good pitch
But there’s a big difference between 3-3 game and a 5-3 game. Those walks killed him. He just wasn’t aggressive in the zone tonight.
Dont smack Joba
He is a diligent and competant young man. Have faith. I agree, he must stick to his power, where late in the game the hitters probably were watching off speed from the starters. Farnsworth is a bum with a much too expensive contract.
in today's paper
willie randolph was saying how much the team liked playing away from Shea because their fans still hate them.

Tomorrow's NY papers will read
so much for the trinity.
I guarantee it.

Why the beef with Betemit?
The guy has only had 14 plate appearances this year, and last year he was a pretty decent bench player. Do you really think that the 14 PA’s are probative of how he’ll do this year?
Formerly known as Econolodge
My beef with him is that he's a strike out machine
and he’s not a good defensive infielder. This team already has plenty of bench players like that and are all better than Betemit.
My assessment has nothing to do with his 14 PA this year.
When the team carries 13 pitchers, I find it hard to believe that the Yanks have plenty of any kind of bench player.
Formerly known as Econolodge
When you already have Giambi, Duncan, and Ensberg – one could argue that the team already has plenty of power bats who don’t always make contact and play suspect defense. I didn’t see the need for another one in Betemit.
I’d rather have the sure-handed defensive player on the bench (which this team clearly lacks right now) who has actually hit considerably better than most of us thought he would during his stint.
It’s about versatility more than anything else and I think Gonzalez is by far the more versatile player.
