I'm from out of town....WAYYYYYYYYYY out of town.
I am so grateful for sites like this because I can share my ignorance about other places in this country without feeling totally humliated. I am in the works of planning a trip to Boston and New York City for the 1st weekend in August. Thanks to the Red Sox website, I got some very useful information. Now I need help on this end.
I've lived in rural Arkansas, in a town of 11,000 people, for way, way, way, way, way too long. Any city that has more than about 6 signals and 1 major interesection confuses me. (Sad isn't it?) I will be taking this trip alone and on a pretty pathetic budget. I'm wondering what's the cheapest and best way to get from Boston to New York City? I also need a cheap, SAFE, close place to stay for a night or 2? (anyone want to adopt me? I'm house broken!!) I'm hoping to arrive in New York City early evening Saturday August 2nd.
And to really show my true ignorance about this part of the country....will someone please tell me, does it matter what airport I fly out of to go home? I know there's 2, but no one around here seems to know what difference it makes. (Surprise!!) I know, I'm a dork.
I don't know anybody on the East Coast. I don't even know anyone that's even been to the East Coast, so I'm really just depending on the nice suggestions of folks like you!!! please help....and be nice!!! :)

My friend lives in boston
and he went to a Yankees game with me. He took what he called “the china town bus” which was less than 20 bucks. They leave on the hour.

As for airports, there are actually 3 airports if you count Newark, New Jersey.
If you’re staying in Manhattan, LaGuardia is proabably closest. But if you’re taking public transporation JFK and Newark are easier to get to.

bonanza
You can also take peter pan or bonanza or whatever they’re called from Boston to NYC. You will land in the Port Authority Bus Terminal which is at 8th and 42nd street (and half a block from both a Modell’s and a Yankee Clubhouse). You will freak right out the minute you step outside of the PA. I see it every day. Calm down and follow the hordes east or north or south. Don’t go west, there’s nothing west except a lot of good places to eat.
There is a Comfort Inn or some such thing on the Upper West Side that seems to be cheap but cheap by NYC standards is way expensive by everywhere else. Shop for bargains on hotels.com, expedia etc. A lot of NYC hotels run deals that are unadvertised, but you really have to look for them.
If you find hotel and want to know if it’s a hole in the wall, send me email at bxgrl1@yahoo.com and I’ll try to steer you in the semblence of the right direction.

and you want to fly out of LaGuardia unless there is some rocking deal out of JFK.
