IPK being sent down?

Mark Feinsand is reporting/guessing that something will be happening soon with Ian Kennedy:

Joe Girardi didn’t say it directly, but he and Brian Cashman will be discussing the young pitcher in the next day or two to “figure out what is the best plan” for Kennedy.

Read between the lines: Kennedy will either be skipped or sent down.

The Yankees have three off days to play around with this month, so they’ll only need a fifth starter three times. That means Kennedy could hang around, get skipped and work with Dave Eiland on his mechanics and whatever else ails him. Or he could be sent to Triple-A to pitch down there and get his act together.

This all complete speculation at this point. But how long before something happens? Do Yanks just plow forward and let him keep getting hammered, or do they step in and make some sort of change? I don't know if the minors is really the best option, but skipping him a couple of times and letting him work on his mechanics out of the bullpen doesn't sound terrible. And frankly, it'll keep his innings down and maybe he can get it together and be strong down the stretch.

Thoughts?

My guess is that they will skip his next start and hope Eiland makes some headway with him on his side sessions.

I mean, at this point, it’s either a struggling Kennedy or Igawa. Is Igawa really an upgrade? I don’t think so . And we already know Igawa doesn’t have the talent to get major league hitters out consistently.

I’ll take my chances with Kennedy.

I guess the question is what is more useful

if he is only gonna be used 3 times in the next month, is he better to be around and throwing side sessions, or would it be better for his developement to be in the minors against hitters?

I suppose we could use him like the long man we wish we had for a month?

Oh Ana

Oh Ana – I love you man. I really do. In fact, I love you so much I’m going to bypass asking you for an apology now that IPK and Phil Hughes are now certifiable trainwrecks and everyone has conveniently forgotten the lashing I took at your hands concerning these two mound disasters. Allow me to make a further prediction: IPK never rounds into any kind of “shape” as far as being a major league talent and will be dispatched to the Nationals, the Royals, the M’s – you name it! – and soon thereafter disappears into oblivion. Phil Hughes – on the other hand – has a fitful and decidely mediocre remainder of ‘08 and the same in ‘09 and is eventually shipped off to parts unknown and develops into….a mediocre, journeyman .500 pitcher who hangs for X number of years and, never finding a home, ends up pitching for more teams than boxer shorts I own…Phil Hughes will be the classic pitcher who attracts every GM who thinks THIS will be the team/year when Phil Hughes finally “arrives” as a major talent.
As I tried to explain to you kids way back in camp: IF it were this easy you and I would be sharing adjoining lockers and hobnobbing with the rich and famous jock-sniffers at the latest hotspot in Manhattan. So now here we are – beginning of May and I actually saw a post at this site that suggested we need to find ourselves another Aaron Small – Ana if that don’t bring a tear to your eye than you’re a better man than I…
