Bronx Bound Week 7

After a week off, your minor league updates are ready.

In that span, JB Cox has gone from freshly called up to AA, to freshly called up to AAA. Melancon has been called up to AA. Strong showings in small sample sizes for both players; I expected the TJ crew to recover quickly, but even I am surprised by how quickly they've come around.
It's almost enough to make a fellow forget that Scott Patterson has allowed less than a hit per inning, and sports a nearly 4:1 K:BB ratio.
Yep, it's a good thing we're saving Joba to pitch that 8th inning when we've got a lead...

Alan Horne still has not pitched. He last threw a baseball in competition on April 10th. It's not just the MLB Yankees that are stingy with injury details.

Zach McAllister and Dave Robertson make impressive debuts on Bronx Bound; a combined 9.0, 8 hits, 1 BB, 0ER and 12K. Keep it up boys.

On the other side of the ball, the week was not nearly as bright if your name isn't Cody Ransom or Brett Gardner.

Tabata is now hitting .222/.311/.257 in 144ABs.
Jackson's .277/.365/.390 line is more respectable, but that SLG is .068 points lower than Brett Gardner.

I Love Montero...

Hes gonna be such a monster. Having him and Arod in a few years is alot of right handed power.

Montero

After a really hot start, Montero has cooled of quite a bit, but only for average. He is hitting .215 in May (after a .360 April) but he still is contributing to run production, improved his walks and hasn’t struck out that much.

Gardner has also been removed from his customary leadoff spot and is now hitting third in the Scranton lineup. He should be moved up soon to give the Yankees an speed threat.

With Melancon, Cox and Robertson being the future of the Yankee bullpen (along with Patterson, Ramirez and Mariano), there is no need for Joba to remain there. He should be a starter!

Throwing out of the pen is more taxing to the arm than starting pitching mainly because a relief pitcher tends to overthrow during his one or two inning stint. Starting pitchers usually pace themselves more. Whereas Melancon, Cox and Robertson were closers in college (and have been groomed in the minors to throw two inning stints), Joba has always been a starter and will eventually give the Yankees a top of the rotation guy.
