such a weird line-up

Facing the best lefty in baseball, and only one righty bat in the top six spots. No wonder we’re in last place. That and our 3 hitter right now has exactly one homer and slugs .396.

Calgon, take me away!!!

Obviously, the right-handers that Girardi has put in the lineup the last few weeks haven’t done jack – which is one of the reasons why their record against lefties is so poor.

I don’t see this as a bad move at all. I’ll take my chances with Matsui, Abreu, or Damon against Santana over a Duncan or Ensberg who haven’t hit a lick.

Matsui and Cano

Have great history against Johan.

Make Santana work

He hasn’t pitched in awhile and he’s been throwing 100 pitches by the 6th inning quite often this season.

by anaconda on May 17, 2008 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

or Jeter could hit one out too

There you go, Pettitte. There’s your runs.

I thought that was the

reason they skipped Rasner. I mean its one thing to start him on an extra day of rest, but once you start to get a few days behind your schedule you worry.

Only

one homer. Why is he hitting third?

Well he told Girardi

he was wearing the thong again. So Joe knew he would hit another one.

Jeter's probably got many thongs

lying around his crib. Can’t imagine how many hotties spend the night at his place.

You told me!

but really, I don’t mind being wrong when the results are a positive for the Yanks.

Today is also a historic day in Cubs history

May 17, 1979 was the day of the 23-22 game against the Phillies. That’s just flat out insane.

A one run game

A homer by Mike Schmidt in the 10th inning was the difference

Schmidt was every bit the all-time Cubs killer that Manny is against the Yanks.

Man

Mike Schmidt was an all-time everybody killer.

Holy crap....

Mike Schmidt had 78 career homers against the Cubs. And 207 RBIs.

I knew he smoked them, but damn, that’s impressive.

Did you ever play

with Baseball Reference’s Neutralized Stats?

Check out Schmidt if he had played in Colorado in 2000. Yahoza.

It's a neat way to

get a feel for how impressive a performance is across eras.

Go into

the career stats. On the above the batting line there’s red writing that says “Neutralize Stats”. When you click that, you should see options for which year want to adjust to, an average 750 season, the Dodgers ‘68 (least) or ‘00 Rockies (most).

Just to followup

in a 14 year stretch from 1974- 1987, Schmidt had one year when he was not at least 40% more productive than the average hitter. That year he was only 22% more productive (OPS+).

Pettitte really piling up the pitch count this inning.

82 pitches already for Pettitte. Unless he gets a quick inning, he’s only got one more left.

guess that great history

Cano and Matsui have against Johan has been revised.

Okay, this is ridiculous

12 pitches for Santana over the last 2 IP. Way to work the count.

Joba was really not

helped out by the defense there. If Melky made that catch it would have been a webgem, but he didn’t and it turned into a triple. And then the missed foul ball by the attorney general…
