PREGAME NOTES:
- Joe Girardi held a closed door team meeting before the game. Not exactly sure how that is going to help the team score runs since it won't bring back A-Rod or Posada. Frankly, I think team meetings are overrated but I guess the manager has to do something to try and shake things up.
- Mike Mussina is a lifetime 17-7, 3.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP in 30 starts against the Rays, including a brilliant outing on April 7 (6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) at the Stadium.
- James Shields is a lifetime 0-5, 7.83 ERA, 1.71 WHIP in 6 starts against the Yanks, including a loss (5 IP, 8 H, 2 ER) on April 6 at the Stadium.
- Yanks career numbers vs. Shields can be viewed here. Rays career numbers vs. Moose can be viewed here.

Yanks aren't playing well
but all is not rosy in RSN either. They lost again today and placed laptop thief on the DL.
Also, the bullpen, a major strength a season ago, is not performing well. They now rank #12 in the AL with a 4.56 ERA. By contrast, the Yankee pen ranks #4 with a 3.37 ERA.
Tampa is a good young solid team. But they are not this good. They are overachieving right now.
It’s easy to judge teams and overreact when one is playing good ball and the other is not.

Wow...

I would think so
although I don’t think he was thinking about Joba when he showed his emotion there. Which is exactly why I don’t see Joba’s fist pumps as a big deal. It’s not contrived or meant to taunt anyone.

The announcers just gave me a heart attack
They were joking and saying Melky went in and iced down his arm, I thought they were saying he hurt himself on that throw.

No
If they mandate that bat models come out of the collections common before (guessing) 1970, when the bats were thicker and less prone to splinter then you remove the danger that Cbeck is worried about.
I don’t think they’d do it, since heavier bats more evenly weighted would produce less acceleration and reduce offense.
