Rasner's Stuff- Pitching in the big leagues
We just saw some guy with low to medium velocity win his 350th game.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=280510125
We know Maddox is a first round hall of famer. But we, and almost everyone else, fall into the trap of thinking "Rasner does not have the stuff to get out major league hitters consistently."
I know it's only 2 games but he has looked like a front line big league starter. He gives us 4 guys we can start and hope for a quality start. Who would have guessed our best 4 May starters would include Moose and Rasner?
So, how is he doing it? I guess it's good control, maybe very good control. It is very efficient pitching. By that I mean strikes and keeping his pitch count down. I think he's in the rotation for a while.
We are still short one starter. I do not think I'd bring IPK back after only one start, or on short rest for Friday. So we have a game against the Mets to do something with. I'd like to see Dan Giese, but I know it's a gamble.
Meanwhil as we move toward the return of IKP and Hughes gets of the DL and Joba gets ready to start we have a lot of decisions to make. The old saw is you can never have too much pitching, but this is going to give us a lot to talk about.

Anyone but Igawa
Using that guy again is like forfeiting.
Meanwhile, it is beyond miserable outside here in NY today. Meaning the Mets will likely get rained out today, meaning Hank will get an up close and personal look at Johan this weekend. He was supposed to pitch on Thursday of this week.
I would use Rasner on Friday night, and let TBD pitch on Thursday night.
Pitching someone with little or no big league experience under the Friday Night Lights of Yankee stadium – against the Mets and Santana – would be the definition of getting thrown into the lion’s den.

Re:
I never believe what George King says until his report is confirmed by someone else I trust like Kepner, Feinsand, or Pete Abe.

or Sweeny Murti
Sweeny Murti just said on WFAN that Kennedy is pitching on Thursday against Tampa and Rasner on Friday against the Mets. That confirmation came directly from Girardi.
Shockingly, George King is wrong again. Good to see some things haven’t changed. He is still the worst Yankee beat writer in the business.

King was right
Unless he just changed his post he said IPK will go Thursday.
I think I caused some confusion by posting this under the “Who should start Friday” question. My bad.

King did change it
I read that blog entry an hour ago and it did say that Kennedy was pitching Friday and Rasner Thursday.
WFAN had been citing King’s piece as fact until Murti came on and said the opposite.

Remember Tyler Clippard?
“Pitching someone with little or no big league experience under the Friday Night Lights of Yankee stadium – against the Mets and Santana – would be the definition of getting thrown into the lion’s den.”
Clippard beat the Mets (and a 5-1 John Maine at the time) in Shea last season on Sunday night national TV, and got his first career hit – a double!

That was impressive
Especially since the Yanks lost the first two games of the series and the Steinbrenners were ready to pounce.
But I wouldn’t advise trying that again.

Rasner
I’d hold Rasner back a day and give him the start on Friday. I’d rather see IPK get the start Thursday versus the D-Rays than to bring back the shaky kid Friday to face Santana, the man he was nearly traded for, in the Subway Series. Talk about pressure.

That would be wise
There’s no need to put anymore pressure on Kennedy right now. I would hope that cooler heads will prevail and have Kennedy start Thursday since he’s reportedly only going to pitch one inning tonight. It’s essentially just a throw day for him now.
Then again, this is the same organization that willingly threw Kei Igawa against a Tigers lineup when Ray Charles could see that disaster coming from miles away.

Wright should start.
Given the reason IPK was sent down, I would give him 1or 2 more starts in AAA. If he cleans up his head, then bring him up.
Wright is on the 40 man, use him or lose him. How well Wright would pitch? I don’t know, but it would be better the Kiki!
Raz is a great shot in the arm, and a good guy. He pitched well last year, until he got hurt. When he came in this year they said he was coming off the 40 man. He took it like the man he is and asked if he could come back if he cleared wavers, or what ever. Needless to say he is a Yankee now, and doing a good job, so far. 27/08.
