PREGAME NOTES:
More bad news regarding Phil Hughes. According to Brian Cashman, Hughes has suffered a stress fracture in his ninth rib and will be shut down for quite awhile. He is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks. Ugh.
As most of you know by now, Darrell Rasner has been recalled from Scranton to take Hughes' spot on the roster and will start on Sunday - also known as PA Day.
During their last six games, the Yankee offense has been downright horrific; scoring just 19 runs and hitting just .202 overall and .184 w/ RISP.
Ian Kennedy has never faced the Tigers.
Nate Robertson is a lifetime 1-5, 4.86 ERA in 7 starts against the Yanks, including 0-4, 4.11 ERA in his last 4 starts. He is a lifetime 0-3, 6.97 ERA in 4 starts at Yankee Stadium. Yanks career numbers vs. Robertson can be viewed here.

Just the thought of Shelley Duncan batting clean-up hurts my brain
no offense, Shelley.

Ditto
I like Ensberg much more as a hitter, and I’d bat Jeter third at the moment.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
please don't say
no offense
we need offense.

Or you can write a reall really really really long subject line about absolutely nothing. Those SBN guys did their homework and added a lot of features that other blogs don't have.
I’m still waiting for smell-o-vision

Nice
Having a lead also should help Kennedy settle down into a rhythm. Let’s hope the offense doesn’t fizzle from here on out like they did last night.
Boy that Ensberg
he sure looks like a juicer.

Hey
not all English teachers need glasses!
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
yeah they do eventually
English teachers and lawyers. Something like 90 percent of lawyers wear glasses (or contacts or lasix)

Well not yet

I would've said Math teacher
but since he was asking Hughes blog readers about book recommendations, I figured English teacher was more fitting.
he wants non-fiction recommendations
so maybe history is more fitting

Not lately...
I’ve been pretty busy at work, so I haven’t had a chance to crack many books and kill time.
Jared Diamond? Harold Bloom? John Keegan?

Lots of political stuff and military conflicts (past and present). But we won’t get into that in this forum because this ain’t the place for it.
Baseball and sports in general as well.
I know you're a Democrat or at least a liberal leaning person
I can tell.

some losers
accused him of juicing on phil hughes’ blog when ensberg guest blogged. I felt bad for the guy.

Careful
don’t knock the traditional media. You’re just a blogger. Buzz Bissinger will come yell at you.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
dude
two blogs: I Can Haz Cheeseburger and Stuff White People Like both just got 6 figure advances on book deals. Traditional media can chew on that for a while.

Did you watch that?
I asked people on the Game Thread last night if anyone watched Costas and I didn’t any response from anyone.
Pete Abe did a post on it. I did not see the question.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
I'm proud of him
They refused to distinguish between bloggers and commentators. And they keep asserting that bloggers don’t care about sports credentials- how else would Pete A be so popular?
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
Ooo
I just got to the part where Buzz says he’s spent 40 years “honing his craft”...
You’ve got a degree in journalism, I’ve got a freakin’ MA in English. Like we’ve never worried about the quality of our writing.
If I’d been sitting in that chair, I suspect I would have used every adjective I know to thrash the smug little prick.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
No kidding...
I’m glad they had Buzz on but it goes to show you just how much they are out of touch with the country right now and how much they are losing audiences.
Hey, I know Costas feels the same way, but he’s not a jackass about it. I can understand where he’s coming from. He spent his career honing his craft and now he’s losing his luster to some bloggers who don’t have any real credentials at all. Some don’t have any ethical standards either.
I’ve always been a Costas fan. Hell, I wanted to be Bob Costas when I was in high school.
I think the point that was missed is
that it IS a meritocracy. The good stuff rises, the bad stuff goes away eventually. And the bad comment leavers.
"The secret of managing is to keep the guys who hate you away from the guys who are undecided." -Casey Stengel
Indeed
But I think a big reason why that point was missed is because Deadspin is probably the king of sports blogs right now and the nasty comments read were from his site.
They did make a great point about sports in general. Talk radio and the blogosphere is often held captive and even driven by overreactions, negativity, and entertainment.
That’s not a good thing.
the other thing
is we get to talk back and talk to each other when idiots like Mike and the Mad Dog are going on and on about stupid crap.
I can read the dreck in the Post and the News on the subway on the way home and then come here and complain about it.
They’re mad because we have this real time criticism and discussion of THEM.
wha wha wha

M& MD
The only time I ever listen to that show is when they have a decent guest on. They are stuck in their traditional thinking and 80s approach of buying every FA or trading the youngsters for star players past their prime.
They are incapable of adapting to new strategies.
BTW....
Damon already had a groin issue before that play. Kim Jones said that yesterday on the pregame.
It may have tweaked it again.
2nd time through the line-up
getting a little rough here

I didn’t get you ticket…
