Derek Jeter, SS
Bobby Abreu, RF

Hideki Matsui, DH
Robinson Canó, 2B
Wilson Betemit, 1B
Melky Cabrera, CF
Jose Molina, C
Mike Mussina, RHP (0-1, 4.76 ERA)
The Yanks have scored just 17 runs in their first 6 games, which computes to just 2.8 runs per game for those of you scoring at home. They are rather fortunate to be 3-3 right now, but the lack of offense shouldn't be a concern. Make no bones about it, they are going to mash this season.
As for tonight's game, Anthony McCarron reports that Jorge Posada is out of the lineup so he can catch Phil Hughes tomorrow afternoon. He also reports that Giambi will be held out because of the cold weather and Joba Chamberlain will be available to pitch tonight if needed (since he threw just 16 pitches yesterday).
Moose is a lifetime 16-7, 3.50 ERA in 29 starts against the Rays, but this is obviously a different team from years past and Moose is a different pitcher. Case in point, they did not treat him kindly in 2007 (0-1, 7.59 ERA in two starts).
Jason Hammel has not had good success against the Yanks in his own right (1-1, 6.41 ERA in 6 games).
Yankees' career numbers vs. Hammel can be viewed here. Rays' career numbers vs. Moose can be viewed here.
Lastly, I have my own issues with certain beat writers from the NY Post, but the outfit has done a very nice job with their ongoing Remembering Yankee Stadium feature. There are several great articles detailing memorable moments at the old Stadium as they happened and they also take an inside look at the construction and artist renderings of the new Stadium. Overall, it's a good read and definitely worth checking out.

Girardi
must really prefer Betemit's D to Ensberg's.

You'd think...
tonight would be the perfect night to let Ensberg get a start. Hopefully, he'll get it tomorrow because it's supposed to rain and they don't want him out there on a wet field.

I think he was scared of Joe G and came to camp in shape- and he hasn't faced a tough lefty yet.

This is rich
Sterling just read one of those ads for the Steiner-Yankees memorabilia. Tonight's item? A "game-used" Melky Cabrera batting glove.
Just cause he used it doesn't mean he needed it.

Yikes
Jeff Marquez not doing well tonight.
From Chad Jennings:
Top first: Buckle up folks, because there's one out, the bases are loaded, Louisville has already scored twice and pitching coach Rafael Chaves is currently making his first visit to the mound. After a walk and a single to start the inning, Jay Bruce drove a stand-up triple to right field. Andy Phillips followed with a groundball to third and Cody Ransom made a heads-up throw home to get an out at the plate. Two more singles have loaded the bases for Chris Dickerson. There are people having better days than Jeff Marquez right now.
Oh boy. Marquez just walked Dickerson to bring in another run -- he had a full count -- then struck out Paul Janish before allowing a two-out, two-run single to No. 9 hitter Alvin Colina. Marquez is already at 32 pitches.
First inning finally ended with a groundout from Jerry Gil, the 11th batter of the inning. Marquez threw 38 pitches and the Yankees have already gotten Dan Giese up in the bullpen.

I'd consider letting him go out there and yank him if he allows any baserunners.

they might be thinking of his mindset
with moose that's pretty important. Girardi might want to leave him leaving in a good space. Moose has to be coddled.

This appearance by Bruney
is why Farnsworth is not going to be slotted into the 8th inning role when Joba moves to the rotation.
Girardi is going to play the hot hand. Right now, Bruney is the hot hand and Farnsworth never even warmed up in the pen.
