Bronx Bound

Every Sunday I'm going to try to check in on the progress of the Yankee prospects I'm keeping an eye on. You'll notice that I'm not really watching anyone who figures to spend the season below AA- the reason for this is that I'm not really interested in minor league baseball; I'm interested in identifying the players who can help the Yanks this year and next.

If there are players (at any level) you'd like me to add to my list, just let me know.

Jonathan Albaladejo (AAA): has not pitched yet.
Chris Britton (AAA): 1G, 1.1IP, 1H, 0BB, 0R, 1K.
JB Cox (DL): has not pitched yet.
Brett Gardner (AAA): 11ABs, 4H, 1HR, 1SB, 0CS
Alan Horne (AAA): 6IP, 5H, 2BB, 2R, 6K.
Austin Jackson (AA): 8ABs, 0H, 2BB, 0SB, 0CS, 1K
Jeff Marquez (AAA): has not pitched yet.
Daniel McCutchen (AA): 5IP, 3H, 3BB, 0R, 7K
Mark Melancon (A): 1G, 1.2IP, 0H, 0BB, 0R, 1K
Humberto Sanchez (60 day DL): has not pitched yet.
Jose Tabata (AA): 9AB, 1H, 1BB, 2SB, 0CS, 3K
Eric Wordekemper (AA): 1G, 1IP, 3H, 1BB, 2R, 2K

Great idea

I've been checking out the progress of these guys myself this past week.

Melancon

Why is Melancon at A-level instead of AA?

I'd also like to hear about Scott Patterson, Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras, Juan Miranda, Colin Curtis, Cody Ransom, and Jason Lane.

Melancon is still in Florida

primarily because of the weather.

The Yanks don't want him pitching in cold climates right now and I believe they are going to move him to Trenton (or was it Scranton?) once the weather warms up.

Weather, plus

Coming back from TJ in essentially his first season of pro ball, he'll need to climb the ladder. He should move quickly though.

Edwar Ramirez is awful

He's a one-pitch pitcher (changeup) and if that's you're best pitch you'll get whacked around like he did so often last season. 8.14 ERA and 1.81 WHIP is putrid...Fastball is not a major league fastball. And Jose Veras showed me nothing last season. And both pitchers aren't young prospects we're talking about. They're both 27 and basically career minor leaguers.

Jesus

I would DEFINATELY like to keep tabs on the behemoth that is Jesus Montero, future yankee super super star, hes playing at charleston with romine and dellin

Oh yes

He should be our future catcher.

Patterson and Veras

That's a bunch of names

and I'll add all of them to the list.

I didn't have Montero on my original list because he's likely to spend the year at A; Patterson, Veras, Curtis, Lane, and Edwar because of their age (after 26 you're no longer a prospect, Curtis is the old man of the group at 31); and Miranda because of age questions and the logjam at first. Cody Ransom is a viable talent though.

Dellin Betances

Is another player who should be added to the list. He seems a ripe candidate to move up quickly - as a reliever - once he sheds his secondary pitches. His marquee pitches have Joba like qualities to them, studies have shown.
