B.J. Upton,  CF
Jonny Gomes,  RF

Edwin Jackson,  RHP  (5-15, 5.76 ERA in 2007)

New York Yankees

Robinson Canó,  2B
Jorge Posada,  C
Hideki Matsui,  LF

Andy Pettitte,  LHP  (15-9, 4.05 ERA in 2007)

According to Kim Jones, Rob Thomson will remain the interim skipper for today's game while Joe Girardi recovers from his illness.

Still no official word yet on the anticipated roster move, but Jonathon Albaladejo is expected to be sent down to Scranton to make room for Andy Pettitte.  Update:  Pete Abe confirms Albaladejo getting the boot.

Pettitte has owned the Rays throughout this career (13-2, 3.53 ERA in 21 games), but he was knocked around a bit in 2007 (2-1, 5.35 ERA in 4 starts).

Edwin Jackson is a career 1-1, 5.56 ERA in 7 games against the Yankees.

Yankees' career numbers vs. Jackson can be viewed here.  Rays' career numbers vs. Pettitte can be viewed here.

Finally, we may want to file this under "Maybe Joe Torre did know what he was doing with Farnsworth?":

"Kyle Farnsworth had gone 79 appearances without inheriting a runner before Friday night, when he inherited two and immediately gave up a three-run homer."

Any rules

to limit Farnsy's usage are good ones. I hope he gets himself straightened out or banished to the back of the bullpen.

I dont usually wish a Yankee ill-will

But an injury wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

didn't Atlanta

offer Wickman for him at the deadline last year?

Indeed

But, I'm not sure Wickman would have been an upgrade.

1.49 WHIP in the NL

He was no upgrade.

What happened?

I'm at school so I can't watch the game and I can't install Flash on the computer to use gameday.

Gomes hit a shot

off the top of the right field wall. The ball went into the shadows and he thought it was a home run. Got tagged out by Jeter in his homerun trot.

Ahhh....

I can't see the game myself, so I have to rely on Gameday.

That is embarrassing

Run hard until the ump signals.

Way cool...

Gameday now has a little feature where they show little replays and highlights. I just saw the Gomes replay. Damn, that was embarrassing.

How'd Robbie's AB look?

He's been brutal so far.

That's usually a sign he's going into a slump.

Man

A hit from Jete would have made that inning sting less.

Where's Ed? He was saying last night he wanted to sit Giambi in favor of Duncan.

60 pitches thru 4.0 IP for Pettitte

Hope he has a couple of very quick innings because his pitch count is limited to about 80-85.

At least they are working Jackson

84 pitches thru 4.0 IP

He probably only has one more inning left at this point.

yes

and they have actually helped him a bit too.. a good amount of swings on balls out of the zone..

What's the deal with Giambi?

He'll be out for awhile. This is why I thought the Ensberg signing was a good one.

Agreed

on Bruney. Honestly the hits will come, young starters will fluctuate, but this bullpen holding it down is something we can look foward to all yr.

Now

6 more runs will make this Saturday splendid. I didn't get all hyped on this season for them to fall on their face against the 42 million dollar Rays. Every team seems to out hit us so far.

by ProudYankee on Apr 5, 2008 3:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well Jackson is comin out soon.

Hopefully we can rough up their pen.

In Minor league news....

From Chad Jennings:

"Eric Duncan just stole second base and Brett Gardner homered to right. No, I don't have those names reversed. What's more, Duncan swiped the bag with ease and Gardner's home run was a no-doubter."

Go figure.

Alan Horne is also making his Scranton debut in that game and pitched pretty well:

6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K - 86 pitches

by anaconda on Apr 5, 2008 3:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

As if we don't have enough arms

Horne will be ready for the bigs by midseason. If anyone struggles I've already picked him to step up (rotation or bullpen).

by jscape2000 on Apr 5, 2008 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

The Yanks are probably going to have 10 or more pitchers make starts this season. Horne will probably be the first of the young arms. Marquez at some point too.
