PREGAME NOTES:

Including yesterday's 1-0 victory, the Yanks have scored just three runs or fewer in 12 of their 26 games (winning four of them) and are hitting just .237 on the season w/ RISP.  Not good.

Pete Abe reports that Jorge Posada flew to Alabama today to meet with Dr. James Andrews but there is no word yet on the status of his ailing shoulder.  Amazingly, today is the first time since Sept 1, 2006 that the team has played without Posada on the active roster.

New backup catcher Chris Stewart is with the team and available tonight if needed (let's hope not).

Aaron Laffey will make his 2008 season debut and his first career start against the Yanks.

Mike Mussina is a lifetime 11-9, 4.78 ERA in 25 starts, including a victory last August at the Jake in one of his best outings of the entire season (7.2 IP, 2 ER, 0 B, 6 K).  Tribe career numbers vs. Moose can be viewed here.

A little offense wouldn't hurt either.

Especially against a raw rookie.

by mrljdavid on Apr 28, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

Did I hear correctly earlier

when one of them said that Melky had been on base every game but two this year?

Let's go Yanks

ah shit

why’d he have to hit him there.

by seanp23 on Apr 28, 2008 8:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Giambi and Matsui

Even a DP ties it. Giambi has 12 GS’s.

Actually if you look up the stats

He’s quite good at getting the run in from 3rd with less than 2 outs.

He also hits

a ton of DPs because he gets into “pull mode” where he rolls over on the outside pitches.

OK keep the line moving

A base hit would be nice

Very good game by that kid

He got on trouble on 2 infiels hits

If we hold the lead, Moose gets the W

If he gets this one and 47 more he’s a lock for the HOF.

Golly, another infield hit.

You've gotta be kidding me

Is this the Bronx Bombers or the St. Louis Cardinals of 1985?

Nice job by Ensberg

Cano

figures he whacks the ball and gets out after all of that dribbling. Kid can’t buy a break.

Me too

He needs about 2 straight weeks of warm weather. Cold and damp don’t seem to agree with him. Unfortunately that’s all that will be waiting for him when they get back to NY. I don’t think it ever stopped raining today.

at least you didnt get caught in the ran and jacked for $20.

It's not often a team scores 4 runs

when only one ball (Abreu) leaves the infield.

by anaconda on Apr 28, 2008 9:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Completely off topic

and I didnt even read the full article, but apparently san fran has sent Baked Zito to the pen.

by seanp23 on Apr 28, 2008 9:16 PM EDT   0 recs

Yes, that's what ESPN is reporting

Guess they’re dealing with a big case of buyer’s remorse, eh? 0-6 was not what they were planning on getting when they shelled out that huge contract.

from the AL to the NL, too.

How in the hell

does Sabean still have a job?

He has made some horrific trades and signings.

by matthaggs on Apr 28, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I wouldnt be surprised

If Chris Russo was somehow involved.

by seanp23 on Apr 28, 2008 9:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No idea...

That Zito signing was so predictably horrible. And people think Cashman sucks.

Of course, I didn’t expect it to happen, but because Sabean is the GM, I thought that was the best chance of obtaining a guy like Lincecum when Matsui was rumored to go there.

No GM in their right mind would make such a stupid deal, but Sabean has a helluva track record in a bad way.

by anaconda on Apr 28, 2008 9:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Abaladejo

Joe G. is a lot like Joe T. in that he seems to have a list of bullpen guys to use when the Yanks are losing, and a list of guys he uses when the Yanks are winning.

Johnny A. is crossing over to the “winning” list tonight out of desperation. As Coney just said this is a big appearance for him.

I think Joe T. had "his" guys

which were not always the same as the winning relievers.

is just disintegrating into some sick scenario.

Hey, what did you think of the Fins draft?

Lots of meat and potatoes. Not much flash but they needed to beef up both lines.

by anaconda on Apr 28, 2008 9:48 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

they did what they needed to

classic Parcells.. from the lines out.. good call on Henne.. i didn’t think it would happen.

time will tell, i think a real solid draft though

Call me a homer...

but I really think the New York Football Giants got a steal with Manningham late in the 3rd Round.

I think it was his weed smoking

and lying about it. Not smart.

The kid wasn’t a thug, he just did something stupid. My favorite game ever at Ann Arbor was a last-second TD catch from Henne-to-Manningham against Penn State in ‘05.

That turned out to be PSU’s only loss that season.
