Pete Abe reports that Shelley Duncan was not penciled in the Scranton lineup tonight and is headed to Cleveland.

Yanks have won 8 straight regular-season games against the Tribe, including a 6 game sweep of the season series a year ago.  Let's not even mention the ALDS or those damn midges.

Andy Pettitte is a lifetime 6-7, 4.50 ERA against the Tribe, including 1-0, 2.45 ERA in one start in 2007.

Paul Byrd is a lifetime 1-4, 4.44 ERA in 8 starts against the Yanks, including 0-3, 8.53 ERA in his last 3 starts.  Byrd has not beaten the Yanks during the regular season since June of '99.

Yanks' career numbers vs. Byrd can be viewed here.  Tribe career numbers vs. Pettitte can be viewed here.

What the heck?

Why is white shadow on the yes network not the game? are we in rain delay?

Crowds are won and lost and won again, but our hearts beat for the diehards.

Because it's not on YES

and it’s Friday night. Last season, a lot of Friday night games were on My9.

I can’t watch the Yanks broadcast, so I’m currently watching it on the Tribe’s local network.

what's wrong with the white shadow?

:) I love that kid named Salami.

The question is

Why isn’t the White Shadow on more often? I loved that show when I was a kid. And Salami rocked.

I would be happy

if I never saw that midge footage again. And Torre was an idiot. Joba was a rookie. For once I side with Kay. Joba was a kid and Torre was an experienced manager.

seriously

I thought Torre had to be dead in the dugout to not delay the game. A 4 year old would have known how to manage that with a rookie on the mound and some unbelievable crap descending on the ballpark.

There are many options

on the farm. And I’m still driving the Ohlendorf bandwagon because I think he’ll do a good job once if he gets the opportunity to pitch in non-long man-mop up roles.

At the beginning of the season, I was against having a guy like Rasner or Karstens on the team as the long man. But, it’s obvious now that they need one.

Ohlendorf ain’t that guy. He’s more of a 1-2 IP pitcher.

by anaconda on Apr 25, 2008 9:33 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Options don't sound all that attractive

I don’t like Bruney, but he was probably the 3rd most reliable guy of the 7 guys in the pen. If you pull Joba, then you have Mo, and the next most “reliable” guy is probably (shudder) Farnsworth.

Abadoodoo and Britton aren’t the answer. They’ll soak up innings and they’re better than Hawkins and Traber, but that’s not saying much.

I like Ohlendorf and agree he should pitch shorter stints when he comes back. Other than that, who else is there??? Veras, Patterson, Edwar – I have my doubts.

The Tommy John guys can’t really be expected to help out this year can they? That really seems like wishful thinking from the Joba must start asap camp.

If you put together a depth chart of the current Yankee pen, it’s Mo #1 and Joba #2. The rest seems like a five way tie for fourth. They need a solid #3 at minimum. To me Ohlendorf could be the guy, but Girardi doesn’t seem to think he can do it, or maybe he was just stuck for a guy who could pitch a few innings at a time. They gotta do something though.

by matthaggs on Apr 25, 2008 9:48 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Think of it this way

How many Yankee fans had ever heard of Joba Chamberlain at this time last season? There are a ton of young arms down there and only one or two have to be effective to help this team.

Also, a guy like Albaladejo doesn’t have to mow down hitters. Eating innings is important too. I think Traber is also on the fast track to a boot in the ass and replaced as well.

by anaconda on Apr 25, 2008 10:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agree

I think abbadabba will be effective in keeping the lead. I also like Veras and a few other guys. We have OPTIONS this year that we not have last year. And it’s not like we’re falling out of the sky. The AL East standings are practically a 5 way tie.
