Pettite, Wang, Mussina, etc

Pettite A....Wang C, Mussina A, Hawkins sucks and Bruney is what he is, weight loss or no weight loss. Let's see what Hughes has to bring tomorrow. I'll be watching him and Lincecum closely because I haven't really seen Lincecum pitch much although I know he hits 95 pretty consistently. I think back to all the hype about Hughes, before he ever threw a pitch in a spring training game and I expected to see electric stuff from the number one rated pitcher in baseball. I'll never forget Giambi saying I don't care how fast the kid is throwing the ball really comes up on you quickly. Maybe the scouts didn't realize that the year Hughes was ranked number one, the rest of the class was not that good either. The first two times I saw Homer Bailey pitch in the majors he looked awful and was totally unimpressed with his stuff. And I never properly thanked whoever was responsible for the "Dark Cloud" that represents what's hanging over the dunce Cashman's head.

Who cares whether Hughes throws 95 consistently

Hasn’t both Pettitte and Moose already proved this week that you can get major league hitters out without a plus fastball?

Maybe you didn’t watch the games or you haven’t learned one of the most basic fundamentals of pitching:

Location, command, and keeping hitters off-balance is the key to getting hitters out no matter what kind of velocity is in their arsenal.

You left one key component out

It’s called movement and Hughes’ fastball has none. As far as Mussina let’s see what happens as far as the season progresses. Will he be good, average, and can he deliver against a high quality lineup in the playoffs which remains a big question mark in my mind.?

Hughes does have movement

I can see it with my own eyes. If you don’t want to acknowledge it – that’s your prerogative.

Secondly, Moose isn’t going to be starting any playoff games. An average pitcher can win his share of games with the amount of runs this team will score for him.

Movement ...

When Hughes came back from his hammie strain and ankle woes last season, I didn’t see much movement-probably because he wasn’t striding full and was holding back. Understandable. Now his hammie is fine, and I too see movement-plenty of movement. Unfortunately his ball his moving so much, he can’t command it in the strikezone.

Roth, you are again wrong. Hughes does have issues, but lack of movement isn’t one of them.

So who will be the other starters in the playoffs besides Wang and Pettite?

If Moose ins’t in the mix who will it be. Hughes and Kennedy? Joba and Hughes? The first combiantion you’re in trouble and the second means no Joba in the bullpen which also spells trouble…And finally Hughes. I’ve made my predictions here. I don’t see him being a major talent. Will he be a 1, 2, or 3 for you? I see Kennedy as a 5. What’s your prediction there? And just curious, having seen more of Kennedy this year, if you had a chance to go back and get Santana for Kennedy, Marquez, and Horne would you do it? Looking forward to hearing your answers to the above questions.

We are 25 game in ... What's up with you?

Dude who were our starting 5 last season at this point. Did our final rotation in 2007 even remotely resemble what we started with? No. Gimme a break.

By that ridiculous comment you're saying

that somebody is going to fail out of Mussina, Kennedy, and Hughes while you continue to pump them up. By the way let’s not forget that before the season you said, “Kennedy is my man,” and rambled on and on how much you loved this guy. Just like sticking out your neck for Farnsworth, and bringing up Feller and Gibson in the earlier debate, you will look foolish with that statement about Kennedy.

dude you are so pointless

to argue with- because you pick and choose little pieces out of people’s arguments and harp on those whether or not they have anything do with the argument as a whole. i am not sure why we all continue to waste our time on you.

I can't understand

why people continue to engage this guy. Ignore him, and he will ultimately go away.

I still like Kennedy and I'm not alone ...

I listened to Andy Pettitte glow about IPK. Issues? Sure. He’s young and still trying to prove himself. I’m not sticking my neck out. It’s what a fan does. You should try it sometime.

I like Kennedy too

and heard that same Pettitte interview. He seemed to glow more about Ike than about Phil. Did you get that sense?

DB is not a fan…we all know that. And he won’t try it because it will interfere with his sick Cashman obsession.

I did ...

It makes sense too. Hughes is more of a fastball guy, whereas IPK is kind of a junker. Roth is right, I am a big fan of IPK because of the fact he isn’t a high velocity guy. For him to be successful he needs to pitch (like Mussina in his last start).

I liked what Andy said about heart. Guys like Cone, Pettitte, Guidry certainly had it. These new guys need to show they have it as well.

I was against the Santana deal from Day 1

And it would have taken a lot more than Kennedy, Horne, and Marquez to get him. Not to mention the $140M contract to go along with it.
