Prediction

The Yanks were planning to use tomorrow’s off day to flip-flop Pettitte and IPK, to separate Hughes and IPK. If Pettitte isn’t on today, we’ll see a roster move- either sending IPK down, or sending down one of the relievers for Rasner or Igawa.

What reliever would they send down?

Two weeks ago, I would have said Ohlendorf is the most likely arm to be sent down. But it now seems as if Girardi is gaining confidence in Ohlendorf each day.

He would be the most likely choice, but my guess is Girardi would rather keep Ohlendorf than promote Raner or Igawa.

Looking over the roster

You’re right. You’d have to keep Shelley down and bring up another pitcher.

I’d rather send IPK down than do that. But there’s nobody down there I’d rather have on the team.

I look at it this way....

This team was in far worse shape last season. And they haven’t had their everyday lineup healthy since Posada went down the first week.

It's not that I don't

like to talk about.

It is a problem, but it shouldn’t be the focus. If the batters are avoiding making outs, they’re doing their jobs. Now if one or two hitters are going 0-fer (Giambi, Damon, Cano), then it’s on the manager to reshuffle the lineup, rest guys, mix things up somehow.

AROD

had a hit with RISP last night, yet the yanks were shut out. If he were to hit a double with jeter on first (i.e. not in scoring position) he’d probably get an RBI.

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 1:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah...and that's what's been happening

i mean the yanks aren’t 6 games under .500, so it’s not the biigest deal in the world.. but they could be multiple games over .500 at this point with some timely hits..

Manny tossed

As a yankee fan obviously I’m happy whenever he is not playing but, I am so tired of seeing guys get tossed for arguing with umps.

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You can't argue

balls and strikes. If you don’t have that much self-control, you deserve to get tossed.

Manny should have been tossed against the Yanks

last week. But the ump let him bark and didn’t do anything.

by anaconda on Apr 20, 2008 2:47 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

he was alot worse against the yanks and should have thrown him out but the ump exercised discretion. This guy today did not. He tossed him in a heartbeat. Maybe because of his antics in the yankee game…

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 2:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I know you cant

but, the umps can exercise some self control too now and then. Youve got people paying money to see this guy and now the Ump has decided that manny has insulted him and thrown him out. And, he was dead on, the ball he was called out on was not a strike. Just wish the umps would take themselves a little less seriously. Im not here to pay respect to the umps, Im here to watch great baseball players.

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 2:49 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

A non-no wasn’t happening today anyways.

I’m more concerned about Pettitte going 7.0 IP and handing the ball to Job and Mo to nail it down.

They have the players

on the team and in the minors to take over at 1st. How long does the team wait to make a change? We know what Giambi has been capable of doing in the past but alas, he seems to be toast at this point.

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We'd need to trade

one of the left fielders before that would happen.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

by jscape2000 on Apr 20, 2008 3:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why?

My suggestion is he doesn’t play at all. An occasional walk doesn’t really help this team. I don’t care about the financial aspect of this, it’s about winning. So, mid-season we look at Giambi and his stats are similar. Do we cut bait at that point?

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Walks matter

when he is batting in front of guys like Matsui, Cano and Posada.

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I know that

But the question is whether or not you can get more production out of another player(s). Right now, he adds just about nothing to the line-up. How long do we wait?

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:33 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Until the end of the season

Right now, a lot of guys are adding very little to the lineup. I agree with anaconda, its only a matter of time before he heats it up a little. Im not saying we’ll be seeing MVP Giambi but he’ll get his hits.

by seanp23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:37 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I really...

Want to eat crow on this and hope you’re right. I just don’t think it’s going to happen. It’s a long season but as we saw last year, a few losses can mean a lot in the end.

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:40 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don’t see Giambi getting DFA’d. He makes too much money and he can be productive. It’s just a matter of time before he gets hot.

I think people see the Thomas release and think Cashman should do the same thing. But Thomas is owed $9M and Giambi is owed $20M. Plus, Thomas made a big stink about getting benched last night and Riccardi may have seen the writing on the wall and didn’t want him to become a distraction.

by anaconda on Apr 20, 2008 3:32 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So

You keep playing him until when?

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:36 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably until he gets hurt

That’s going to happen sooner or later.

by anaconda on Apr 20, 2008 3:39 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by Rusty23 on Apr 20, 2008 3:41 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cause you're not going

to cut Giambi, and while you might bench him for a couple of games, his eye and his bat will be in the lineup either way.
