Bronx Bound (Week 2)
It was a great week for Edwar, Jonny A., and Austin Jackson. Alan Horne got hurt, Jeff Marquez got hit hard, and Dellin Betances showed that while he has A+ stuff (8K) he's got to work on repeating his delivery to refine his control (6BB).

Re: Betances
Wow! I didn't think a line with 8K & 6BB was possible in just 5.1 IP.. that's impressive in of itself.
thanks for the update jscape..

Montero
I know he's only 18 but I think he's going to be playing in Tampa before too long and a trip to Trenton later in the season may not be out of the question.
That said, he's probably not going to get a call to the majors until late 2009 at the earliest.

If he sees a game
in MLB in 2009 I'll eat my hat.
He's a huge talent- literally and figuratively. But he's got to show command of the strike zone and the ability to handle the defensive side of catching- working with pitchers, game calling, framing pitches, throwing out runners.
There are already questions about his defense- he's a big kid, 6'4" 230.
If he moves to first base, he could move more quickly, but look at how carefully the Yanks have handled Tabata- a year in rookie ball, a year at A, a year at A+, now he's in AA and figures to spent the season there.

Re:
Hey, I did say at the earliest. I don't expect to see him that early, but you never know if he continues to rake.
I think shifting him to 1B is something the organization is really thinking about. However, since a good catcher is the most coveted position in MLB, they will likely be very patient with him behind the plate since he is so young.
We'll see. I just wouldn't be surprised if he ended up playing 1B before it's all said and done.

Why no RBI column? n/t

RBIs and Runs Scored
are mostly a product of the potency of the lineup and the hitter's place in it. So I don't pay any attention to RBIs when evaluating prospects. You'll notice I left wins and losses off the pitcher's table for the same reason- those are stats that tell me about the team rather than the player.
