Game #12 - New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox, Apr 12, 2008 3:55 PM EDT

New York Yankees

Johnny Damon,  LF
Melky Cabrera,  CF
Bobby Abreu,  RF

Álex Rodríguez,  3B
Jason Giambi,  1B
Jorge Posada,  DH
Robinson Cano,  2B
Jose Molina,  C
Alberto Gonzalez,  SS

Mike Mussina,  RHP  (1-1,  3.09 ERA)

Boston Red Sox

J.D. Drew,  RF
Jason Varitek,  C
Sean Casey,  1B
Julio Lugo,  SS

Josh Beckett,  RHP  (0-1,  9.64 ERA)

Dating back to last season, the Yanks have now won 8 of the last 10 meetings against their hated arch rival.

Beckett is a lifetime 4-3, 6.56 ERA in 8 starts against the Yanks, including 2-1, 4.39 ERA in 4 starts in 2007.

Moose is a lifetime 19-15, 3.66 ERA in 55 starts against the Red Sox, but he was really hammered in 2007 (0-1, 9.26 ERA in 2 starts).

Yanks career numbers vs. Beckett can be viewed here.  Red Sox career numbers vs. Moose can be viewed here.

Finally, here's a mind-boggling tidbit through the first 11 games of 2008;  the Yanks are 0-5 when allowing more than 2 runs.  No pressure, Moose.

The talk show rage up here in Boston

is all about whether or not Ortiz gets a pass for all the great things he's done for the Sox in the past. There is a lot of bitterness about him not hitting. That last AB ain't gonna help any.

Encouraging news from Pete Abe:

Here’s a Derek Jeter update for you: The Captain took BP, then he fielded groundballs for seven minutes (like a nerd, I counted: 31) and then he ran in left field, from the foul line to center field about five times back and forth. He snuck into the clubhouse before we had a chance to talk to him. But via PR maven Jason Zillo, Jeter said he had no setbacks.

I may be in the minority here

But I think Moose was fine that inning. His curve looks pretty good and the Pedroia hit was a come backer he should have handled.

The throw from Molina to 2B could not have been any better, but it's tough to throw out speedy runners after a 70 MPH curve ball.

I said to myself before the at bat that you HAVE to walk Ramirez and pitch to Youklis. I don't give into this stupid F-in mentality of managers not wanting to give the intentional walk and saying it puts more pressure on the pitcher and they have to be more fine with their pitches. Ramirez is one of the great RBI players in the game and had already homered off Mussina. F- for Girardi

Ken Rosenthal, Tim McCarver & Joe Buck

All think leaving Joba in the pen for this season is a no-brainer.

How comforting.

While we're waiting out this delay, Alberto Gonzalez needs to stay on the team I think. Betemit stinks. Gonzalez is much more useful don't you think?

especially with ensberg around

he backs up the corners. AG backs up the middle spots, and shelley is insurance 1B/ OF.. that would make the most sense to me

right?

it seems the league has decided to allow, and encourage gamesmanship against our boys: pine tar pitchers, releasing bugs, dubious rain delays or non delays.

this one's a bit strange

it wasn't raining that hard- they've certainly played in heavier rain than this this year- and to top it off, the "heavy stuff" was still 45mins to and hour away when they suspended play. why not just get the game finished? doesn't make sense to me

This delay helps Papelbon

But A-Rod did take him deep last season. And we all remember that night!

Good...

Papelbon is going to have to warm up three times before he gets into this game.

I'm making him work if I'm A-Rod. He might not have his control from the get-go.

Shelley Duncan

is mashing at Scranton since his demotion.

3 games: 8-14, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 4 doubles

I'd dump Betemit and bring back Duncan when he's eligible. Keep AG as the back up infielder.

by anaconda on Apr 12, 2008 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

Why can't

Giambi just horribly strain an oblique or trip over a bat so we can bring up Duncan. Is that really too much to ask? His time in pinstripes cannot come soon enough.

oops...

that's 5 RBI for Duncan

Too much thinking for A-Rod

Instead of making him throw strikes after warming up three times - he swung at two pitches out of the zone.

Sigh.

yeah

strike two was nasty.. but that thrid pitch was nowhere near the plate

Did FOX cut away to Nascar for you guys?

With two strikes on Cano, in Los Angeles, they switched to Nascar and I nevfer saw Cano's final swing...
