New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

Sometimes I go a couple weeks without catching up with FireJoeMorgan.com. And then something like this reminds me why it's so great.

On a related note: how can it be ok for sports writers to be willfully ignorant? Discuss among yourselves.

wilful ignorance

If a political columnist wrote a column saying "Superdelegates? What's that? No real voter nees to learn about that junk!" they would (hopefully) be canned within about an hour of turning the piece in. I don't know why sports reporters are given so much leeway. If it's worth putting in your newspapers, it's worth having people who are at least going to make an effort to understand what's going on to write about it.

I credit

FJM and PA actually, for opening my eyes to baseball analysis.

These reporters are absolute hacks. In this day and age sports fans are so much more access to information about the sports they love that the idiots on the radio and and beat writers are no longer the most knowledgeable people.

They really need to get educated fast because out of sheer laziness they will not only make themselves looks dumber and dumber but they will completely render themselves obsolete.

Thanks- you just made my day

It's one of my sincere hopes that the anti-stat sports writer will go the way of the dodo- and that their domination of the platform is more a result of tenure than of support from the editorial staff.

We see pitchers buying into Pf/x, managers valuing OPS over SB, and front-offices balancing PECOTA with scouting reports; hopefully the day is coming when the next generation of sports writers will get the chance to step up.

I'm not asking everybody to learn to love OBP- overvaluing that is just as much a mistake as overvaluing BA or a single scouting report. But at least find out what it is and how it works before you trash it.

I wish

I had proofread my comment before I had posted it, but wine makes you do silly things. Anyway, stop insulting my intelligence Plaschke, if you want a job. Honestly, I cant tell you the last time I actually read a beat writers article. I really have no use for these guys at this point. I hope they figure it out for their sakes.
