"You've got the young kids (on the Royals) running around like maniacs and we're playing like a bunch of old men right now."

Here's a tidbit

for Moose's dry erase board:

Largest payroll in the major leagues: $200M-plus
Paydays for fading stars: $100M-plus
Worst offense in MLB: priceless

Good article in SI

on Joe Torre. Talks about the wealth of young talent in the Dodger organization, which reminds Torre of 1995, when Posada, Jeter, Pettite and Mo were infusing the Yankees with some much needed new blood.

Maybe Torre knew a thing or two about this rebuilding process?

Ed Valentine of Bugs & Cranks must read PA.

He wrote a piece this morning focusing on this very quote from Giambi too.

He overlooks

that the rotation has been good while the pen has been brilliant, and if the offense were anywhere close to expectations the Yanks would be 7-2 instead of 4-5.

They'll turn it around.

They'll definitely turn it around

The AL in general is whacky right now.

* The Yanks and Red Sox are at the bottom in the East

* The Tribe and Tigers are at the bottom in the Central

* The Mariners (who I think is the best team in that division) is in last place in the West.

It won't be too long before things get back to normal and the pretenders start to fall.

I don't believe in the Mariners

even with the Angels short on starting pitching, I still pick them over the M's.

Re:

I don't think the Angels can overcome losing their two best starters. But, we'll see.
