Game #1 - Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees (Part II)

Toronto @ New York

Toronto Blue Jays

David Eckstein,  SS
Shannon Stewart,  LF
Álex Ríos,  RF
Vernon Wells,  CF
Frank Thomas,  DH
Lyle Overbay,  1B
Aaron Hill,  2B
Marco Scutaro,  3B
Gregg Zaun,  C

Roy Halladay,  RHP  (16-7, 3.71 ERA in 2007)

New York Yankees

Johnny Damon,  LF
Derek Jeter,  SS
Bobby Abreu,  RF
Álex Rodríguez,  3B
Jason Giambi,  1B
Robinson
Canó,  2B
Jorge Posada,  C
Hideki Matsui,  DH
Melky Cabrera,  CF

Chien-Ming Wang,  RHP  (19-7, 3.70 ERA in 2007)

Okay, let's try this again.

Roy Halladay’s lifetime numbers against the Yanks are pretty darn good (10-4, 2.99 ERA in 26 games).  They haven't beaten him since Sept 21, 2004 and he has thoroughly dominated ever since (4-0, 1.77 ERA in 8 starts).

Wang’s overall career numbers against the Jays are respectable (3-2, 4.20 ERA in 7 games), but they hit him pretty hard in 2007 (0-2, 6.35 ERA in 3 starts).

Yanks' career numbers vs. Halladay can be viewed here.  Jays' career numbers vs. Wang can be viewed here.

A reminder on Game Threads.  There's still an issue with SB Nation and the data feed provider so PA is likely to encounter erroneous line scores and stats until these issues are resolved - hopefully, by the end of the week.  I have also temporarily removed the Rosters, Injuries, and Team Leaders widgets from the sidebars for this very reason.

The Jays

would like to be thought of as serious contenders this year and I actually like a great many of them. So I expect a good game.

BTW, the thing I don't like about the new and improved Pinstripe Alley is that you can see how many comments you've made since you've been here. I've made over 1100 of them. Most of them content-free, I would imagine.

Anyhoo it's Opening Night and still no sign of pfisty and froth is off his meds. Things are not boding well but I'll be the first to ignore all of that and say: Let's go Yankees, clap clap clap!!!

Happy Baseball Season everyone!

Toronto has a lot of talent

Their biggest obstacle is always going to be health. As great as Halladay is, he has spent a lot of time on the DL in recent years. AJ Burnett is downright nasty, but he's another injury waiting to happen.

They've already lost BJ Ryan too - as well as Rolen. Both good players, but both with a history of health issues.

I do agree that Toronto could be really tough because their rotation is excellent and they can hit. But history suggests that the lack of health from key players are going to prohibit them from really putting a scare into the Yanks or Red Sox.

For those of you who can't watch the game

Gameday has done a good job of revamping their interface for the 2008 season.

In other news, Pete Abe posted a pregame interview with Girardi and the new skipper now says that they probably won't be adding a long man for the time being.

That's great news if you ask me because I'd much rather see this team keep a guy like Ohlendorf on the roster (a guy who has the ability to get hitters out) instead of a token long man like Karstens or Rasner when they don't deserve to be on the team.

Okay, I admit it. I have a man crush on Ohlendorf. I think he's got good stuff and the makeup to be a very productive setup man for this team.

Second

that vote for best new feature... I stoped by all off-season long to see whats up over here, and even though I didnt add comments often, I enjoyed reading the posts and comments. And I love how we all share a deep passion for this team. See my actual freinds (most of em) couldnt understand why I was going bonkers a week leading up to tonight. Here's to all of us enjoying a special season thanks for being intelligent Yankee fans.

Michael Kay

Johnny Damon was chirping about the Blue Jays.

He's really an idiot. I do not believe he grew up in the Bronx. We would have killed him for sure.

Chein V Jay

Anyone got Wanger's numbers vs the Jays last season. BTW Yankee D looking sharp, except for the hit pass A-Rod. The Jorge throw to 2nd was a close one and Giambi looks relativley nimble.

Halladay, Sheets, Pedro, Liriano, or Harden?

At least the picture is much better than last year, even on the 400k stream.
