Today marks the 84th and
final Opening Day at The House That Ruth Built. The
Yanks have won their last 10 home openers, the longest active streak in the
majors and a franchise record. No jinxes
please!
Roy Halladay’s lifetime numbers
against the Yanks are pretty darn good (10-4, 2.99 ERA in 26 games). They haven't beaten him since Sept 21, 2004 and he has thoroughly dominated ever since (4-0, 1.77 ERA in 8 starts).
Wang’s overall career numbers
against the Jays are respectable (3-2, 4.20 ERA in 7 games), but they hit him pretty
hard in 2007 (0-2, 6.35 ERA in 3 starts). On a side note, Wang celebrates his 28th birthday today.
Yanks' career numbers vs.
Halladay can be viewed here. Jays' career numbers vs. Wang can be viewed here.
Finally, a note on Game Threads. In addition to the various upgrades we’ve already seen since the re-launch, there will be more improvements regarding this feature as well but the bugs and kinks haven’t been completely ironed out yet. There's still an issue with SB Nation and the data feed provider so you will likely encounter some funky-looking line scores and stats until these issues are resolved.
In the meantime, I'll keep using the same format as I did last season (logos and all) since it is only temporary.
[Note by anaconda, 03/31/08 12:50 PM EDT ] ESPN reports the start of the game has been pushed back to 2 pm.
[Note by anaconda, 03/31/08 2:21 PM EDT ] Pete Abe says the chatter around the ballpark is that the game will be canceled and played tomorrow night. We'll see.
[Note by anaconda, 03/31/08 2:28 PM EDT ] YES Network has confirmed the game has been called and re-scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
Well, that sucks.

What is it?!
What is it about seeing this generation's "fat toad" penciled in at the 5 slot that makes me queasy... The only prayer is that in this - the last year of a disastrous contract - he'll SNAP OUT OF IT! as the line from Moonstruck goes and at least be moderately useful... Of course, I guess I can also always hope that Carl Pavano will make the most stirring comeback since the U.S. Pacific Fleet post-Pearl Harbor!
Don't know about you folks but come on: I'm not willing to lay the blame for this one's performance simply on the ABSENCE of steroids! Simply a mediocre player blessed with the good fortune of producing in a walk year that coincided with a burning sensation in George's wallet!
Oh, and as for today's weather...? That ain't rain folks: Those are God's tears at seeing three washed up over the hill players dotting this lineup (Care to guess which three?!?)
P.S. - Who the %^@& is John Amato??

By the way:
Anyone else on board with the notion that Girardi's reinsertion of Giambi at 1st has (MUCH) less to do with anything Giambi has done or is capable of doing and a heck of a lot more with Girardi's statement to the post-Torre Yankee world that he - Girardi - IS THE MAN IN CHARGE...?
I'd stack my 75 y.o. mother up against Giambi in a fielding contest any day -- and she can also outcook Giambi to boot! (Full disclosure: I think my mother was on steroids, however....as she had a wicked backhand.)

147 gp as in games PLAYED?!? Oh good grief: If this guy plays in 147 games this year than Anaconda mark me down as predicting Phil Hughes does a Denny McLain and wins 30!

oh well, clip the birds tommorrow night
Miguel already went deep. As talented as he is, hes got the extra motivation, fat ass contract, and the protection, to do serious damage. Maybe something spectacular.
