Visiting from Chicago!

Attn: YANKEE FANS!  I'm going to be visiting your beautiful ballpark in August with some of my buddies to see a game and I was hoping for a little bit of help from those of you that know the area well.  I'm looking for a hotel that is somewhat affordable and close to the ballpark.  We're going to the game on Aug 31 vs Blue Jays.  Any help would be appreciated!!!  Thanks in advance!

stay in Manhattan
You can stay near Grand Central and take the 4 up or stay near Times Square and take the D train (or take the Times Square shuttle over to Grand Central and take the 4 up).

There are no hotels near the stadium and if there were, you probably wouldn't want to stay there.  Stay in Manhattan and take the train with the rest of us crazies.  :)

Check all the hotel sites often.  Many of the travel sites run unadvertised specials.  Keep checking.  This past month hotwire was the site with deals but Travelocity, Expedia etc all have them as well.  Keep shopping.  If you have any questions let me know.  I grew up in the Bronx and live in Manhattan now and go to about 5-7 Yankee games a year.

As a frequent visitor to NYC
you have nothing to be scared about on the subway. You can definitely find some good deals in Manhattan, especially if you're willing to make some last minute phone calls.

Public Transportation
Is the way to go. It is an absolute nightmare down there right now with the construction of the new stadium. They are also doing work on 161st st as well as the grand concourse. You want to avoid driving around there at any cost. The new stadium looks pretty cool though.

last year
I was running late and had to meet someone at the stadium and jumped in a cab.  BAD IDEA.   We got to about a half mile before the exit and traffic was stopped dead and not moving.  I waited a little while and then I wound up getting out of the cab and running down the breakdown lane of the Major Deegan and down the off ramp to the Stadium. (I did pay the cabbie for the time he was going to wait in traffic...an expensive proposition!)

Definitely take the subway! Quicker and cheaper (much!)

Brawl
any details re: the Brawl today? Heard Shelley went in with his spikes high at second and Gomes charged him from second base?
