TEX A YANKEE
ESPN, and SI have reported that the yankees have swooped in in the final hours and have reached an 8 year 180mill deal which will as most sources are certain have an opt out clause ... Both Buster Olney and Jon Heyman have reported the deal on their respective sites, boy i would feel horrible to be a sox fan right now ... I said it all along the yanks needed him too much and had first base open, well mark teixera maybe the LAST BIG BANG at the old staduim
MERRY CHRISTMAS YANKEE FANS !!!!!!!!

Seriously Guys,
At Camden Chat the minute this story broke we had thirty comments. You just signed the top free agent and y’all are silent? Is this shit even fun for you, anymore?

Haha
When I saw it reported, I was pretty excited. But what’s to say, really? “Wow, that’s shocking”? “Alright, go Yanks”? I think we’re all a little stunned.
Makes my post “Thinking About Tex and CF,” which I just wrote in the middle of the night last night, pretty prescient, though. I advocated an opt-out clause and a $22-22.5 million AAV over 8 years. Looks like we’re getting him for about a $21 million AAV with an opt-out, which hadn’t been mentioned in any other articles I’d seen about Tex’s search for a suitor.

It's a hard thing
We’ve spent since last offseason debating the pros and cons of signing Tex.
It’s incredible that we’ve got him. It’s wonderful to have an ownership group that recognizes that the best long term plan is to field a competitive team every season.
But when we sign a major free agent, it fuels the Yankee-haters, which doesn’t bother me as much as they annoy me. But it always takes time to warm to a free agent because he’s not my guy.
So, yeah, I’m excited. I can’t wait for opening day, but I’m not any more anxious that I was yesterday.
"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."
That's exactly how I feel
Did you read my mind and put my mixed emotions into words?

i’m so happy about teixeira, i cannot wait to see the reaction from all the red sox fans, this is amazing

but how can you calm down as a yankee fan right now, we ruined the sox offseason and we signed PITCHING one of our huge issues these past few years plus joba wont be converted midseason he will be a starter im not saying we gunna win it all but you cannot tell me its not one heck of a christmas for us yankee fans right now, and i saw your name, lol go to overthemonstre one guy named “nepats108” made a comment and i was like “awww a patriosts fan i havent seen one of you since brady went down” lol

we will see
not that many pennants won before the games start
signing Tex was a good move. it will help the Yankees
but the East will come down to pitching. as usual
on paper, Yanks improved there too. but even on paper, Yanks do not have better pitching than Rays or Sox. All about the same, if the past were the guide
but the past is not the guide
it comes down to which team does it on the field next year
time will tell

Is this a joke?
Its a funny one if it is.
We have a Cy Young runner up, a young starter who just broke out and proved he can be a dominant lefty, and a pitcher who can pitch in ANY clutch situation. Beckett, Lester, and Dice-K. On top of that, we have 3 young arms just waiting to shine, let it be at starter or Pen. One of them has already thrown a no-no, one of them proved to be an effective set-up man, and one of them is flying through the minors. Buch, Masterson, and Bowden.
Who do you have?
A Cy Young winner and a tough competitor in CC and Wang. After that, what do you have? An unproven kid who belongs as your set-up man/closer, an injury prone pitcher who’s career era is above 4, and an unproven blown prospect. Joba, AJ, Hughes.
On top of that, do you even have a bullpen? Or are you guys just going to use Marte and Rivera all year?
Are you kidding me?
We have our own Cy Young runner-up (Wang), a Cy Young winner (Sabathia), and a “young starter who just broke out and proved he can be a dominant” righty (Joba), plus a strikeout artist who has been injury-prone but may or may not continue to be (Burnett). Our other spot will be either Pettitte, one of the most reliable and competitive lefties in the majors for 14 years, or Hughes, Kennedy, or Aceves, all of whom have shown flashes of brilliance in the minors and even a few times at the major-league level.
And are you even joking when it comes to the pen? Our pen is vastly superior to yours, which is why you all have been shopping around for relievers (including via the Crisp trade) while we re-signed a guy we already had and stood pat. Our pen, and not just Rivera, was one of the most dominant in the majors last year, even without Joba in it. And Joba is better than Papelbon in late-game situations, but he belongs as a starter. He dominated you all and your inconsistent Cy Young runner-up last July:

Your rotation is not that much improved buddy
Mussina won 20 games last years so in effect CC replaces that and he might not even win 20 but we will say so for the sake of time. If you then want to say “its all about the playoffs then look at CC’s track record in the playoffs” . . .so you have essentially replaced moose with another 20 game winner who falters in the playoffs
AJ is just another injury prone arm that has only stayed healthy in a CONTRACT year which I will point out won’t come around for awhile . . .lets see him healrthy in the playoffs before you even touch that one
Wang I respect a ton . . .he will be solid for you all year no point in debating that
. . .but his playoff resume sucks too
Joba . . .he is not worth considering a starter until he can demonstrate his ability to throw a MINIMUM of 180 innnings w/o getting hurt . . .until then he is a dominate reliever that prolly won’t make the roation . . .much like Paps . . . a dynamic talent but not a starter . . .
So essentially what you all have done is replace Mussina’s 20 wins with a 23 Mill a year stud who has folded in the playoffs so far in his career and add another HUGE contract for an injury prone high end talent that is a stud for his 18-22 starts a year and prolly won’t be a factor in the playoffs . .. you have wang who is solid . . and Joba who so far has not demonstrated his ability to stayd healthy and you have an open spot right now that you will from the looks of it fill with phil hughes who i think will have a solid year . . .but shut your mouth about how vastly superior your bought rotation is until they actually demonstrate an ability to stay healthy for one and for another be clutch . . .I don’t see one pitcher on the Yankees roster who has done in ONE postseason game what Beckett has done in TWO WHOLE postseasons
Bullpens
are fluid from year to year as demonstrated by the Sox dominance in 2007 and their fallback in 2008 . . .they were still good just not the shutdown pen they were in their World Series Championship year . . .outside of Rivera a majority of your arms will probably regress a bit . . .even Rivera might but I would be suprised b/c he is so talented. The sox have done some solid work to change their pen arouned (i.e and masterson and trade for rameriez) they did away with two of their bigger problems in timlin and hansen so I wouldn’t count my eggs before they are hatched . . .to often fans of any team find themselves with their foot in their mouth by running it about things that are volitale and not even the most informed gm or scout can 100% predict and I think it is pretty safe to assume you are neither
Correction on Joba
I said he probably won’t make the rotation I meant he won’t stay healthy . . .he’ll be in the rotation . . .but not for the whole year
Of course he won't be there the whole year; we already know he has an innings cap n/t

WHAT ??!?!?!??
Ace your such a freaking hater man, like holy crap well to me i love it you and all the other sox fans saying a combo of a healthy AJ, CC and Tex isnt going to help us meanwhile they are all difference makers on other teams all of the MLB is just hating because the yanks signed 2 possibly 3 guys who can make big differences .. and when they do that dont be suprised .. until then just keep hating and most true yankee fans will just take it with a grain of salt because you and the rest of the world hates on the yankees and they feed off it we as fans feed off of it it makes me laugh because if your owners werent in it fir the business and the money for their pockets they would be spending it too, the yankees know how to brand the name, and they got players coming up may not be as strong as the sox or others but their system is getting stronger by the day the mets gave johan 137 mill last year and i didnt see many complaints on him its all you yankee haters out there that just make me laugh your all a bunch of jealous mo-fos .. that the yanks can go out and get the top 3 guys in an offseason when most teams dream about getting just one of them
by I Bleed Pinstripes on Dec 24, 2008 10:47 PM EST up reply actions
You can't make a valid point can you
I was talking about the weaknesses in your teams rotation and your stupid ass starts talking about me being jealous that you singed those guys? . . .I said nothing about teixeira in that post boy . . .everything I said was true . . .so unless you can come up with a valid counterpoint instead of whining like a bum fucked bitch then layoff . . . you didn’t talk about the points made b/c they are true . . .will those guys help? yes any idiot (including you) can see they would . . .but none of those arms are proven in the postseason . . .NONE and two of them have mjaor health issues . . .bullpens are volitale and outside of Mo the yankees pen will regress to a degree . . .prove someone wrong instead of whining . . .seriously you must have been abused as a child to have such a complex
ONE
has major health issues the other two are solid your an absolute moron and a dumbas that has nothing to do but bitch like the rest of the world about guys you wouldnt mind the red sox having but wait .. as soon as they sign with the yankees they are all assholes and peices of crap that all have health issues and downfalls .. you know damn well most sox fans were at least interested in what a beckett dice k cc rotation would have been like .. marte .. i seem to remember the sox showing interest in him .. bruney has been solid .. MO is getting old but still has some left .. Edwar ramirez is solid as well .. who you guys got papelbum and okajima .. oh wait dont forget the guy all you sox fans ride high on justin masterson .. I cannot wait till this season gets underway and maybe the sox and yanks will meet up in a epic clash again and AJ or CC strikes out your overblown beloved idiots known as lowell, youkilus, or pedroia, or ortiz it is going to be fun seeing how he reacts to not having a full year of manny and lest see if he and lowell can stay helathy you all wanna talk about weaknesses and getting old huh?
this rotation will be fine and strong throughout CC is a horse, AJ ok injury prone fine i wil give you that, Wang we didnt have half of last year due to him running the bases in houston on a bonehead decision, Joba will start the season as a starter not a questionable bullpen/starter guy, and he was nasty throughout college and the minors not to mention a 2.— ERA the past 2 years, and then you have probably pettitte who is a more than solid 5th starter

That is one
giant run on sentence.
I think anything you say from now on is discredited and classified as null and void seeing as you cannot even form a proper sentence.
That word wall is blinding me, and the lack of statistical backing of any sort is making me laugh.
Joba and Moose vs. CC
You’re basing your evaluation of Joba on one season as a major-league starter. He got injured—it happens. He’s young—a bit younger than me. To my knowledge, he’d never been injured before as a starter or reliever in college or the minors, and I know last year’s was his first injury in the majors in 2 partial seasons. You can’t label someone injury-prone until they do it time and again.
Now, I love Moose. He was better last season than CC will likely be for us next season in terms of getting consistent wins and a low ERA and WHIP. But CC will be better over the long haul than if Moose hadn’t retired and we’d re-signed him to a 3-year-deal. That’s the difference. CC is younger and more durable, first of all, but he also has a better track record the last few seasons than Moose did before he put his all out there in what he knew from the beginning would be the final season of his career.

Kennedy had flashes of brlliance?
Very comical. That’s a joke right? Good outings in September against the mighty Rays, Royals (5 innings), and Blue Jays.
by RealityCheck09 on Dec 24, 2008 10:09 PM EST up reply actions
then why
would he be so highly liked by other organizations cause he is a bum?? your an idiot, he was pushed to the majors too early just like hughes they had to much pressure on them for just the kids they are, imagine you were one of them on say the red sox and they passed up a guy like johan to gove you a shot you wouldnt feel the least bit pressured ??
Hughes had a no hitter going in his second game in the majors in texas and he blew out his hammy, he is going to be very solid one day, this is why the yankees arent rushing austin jackson to the majors they pushed these kids too hard

Congrats!!
On behalf of the Angels fans that would allow me to represent them, he’s a special player with incredible skills and a great work ethic.
I can only hope that despite your moves this offseason, that the Angels can continue to have the kind of success we’ve had vs. Bombers in recent years!

for the sox? all you yankee fans dont forget when you cross your rival sox fans and they throw the whole “long contract, a lot of money for tex” at you, just let them know they offered him the same and he waited and waited and waited for the yanks to make him an offer and they did AND he JUMPED on it .. so i guess he really didnt want to be a red sox all along eh?? can you imagine him with facial hair?? uh no lol

Interesting point
Do you have to have facial hair or a weird do to be a Sux? I guess Pedroia doesn’t.
And Tex has a ready-made clean-cut look ready for George’s approval.

Mattingly #23
Since Tex worships Mattingly, I wonder if he has the sack to ask the Yankees for permission to wear Donnie’s number. Probably not going to happen, but hell, we have to find something to talk about now.

Can you imagine?
The hell Hawkins got for wearing Paul O’Neill’s 21. My God, Tex would get crucified. Granted, Hawkins was a hack arm for hire, and the fans have wanted Tex, but I don’t think he’ll touch the 23.

Check that, I left a bunch of added contracts out
Wang: $5.5M/1
Marte: $16M/4
Swisher: $21.05M/3
New total:
$466,050,000 !
Anyone laying odds on whether they’ll commit half a billion?
Any chance they’ll outspend the rest of MLB put together?
Wang is only making $5 mil, not $5.5 n/t

so it upsets you that
the Steins want badly to win?
that their payroll will likely be lower than this year?
that they put their money into the team rather than pocketing it?
that they haven’t broken any rules?
then go ahead and vomit.
PS: people love to throw that dollar amount around, yet that amount is over 20 years, not one, but go ahead and use it for effect if it makes you happy. :)
