we need manny

manny ramirez is a MUST for the yankees.who is going to be our #3 hitter? He could slide easily into that #3 spot in front of a-rod and that can be BETTER than the manny-ortiz duo that terrorized teams  for years. we could hace a lineup of damon-jeter-manny-a-rod-posada-nady-matsui-cano-swisher. to go with a starting rotation of cc-aj-wang-pettite or lowe or sheets-chamberlain. all of this combined with are bullpen we could really be dangerous!

Manny, Manny

I’m with you bro, we need him and he would be great as a yankee.

Someone is forgetting...

…that catching the ball is an important part of winning ballgames. The Yankees would certainly score a lot of runs, but would make their pitching staff look bad from all of the balls the defense doesn’t get to.

manny would dh

matsui/damon would platoon in LF. People are so worried about his glove….. He will be a great DH and he’s one of the best right-handed hitters of all-time, that’s why we’re going for him.

And where will Hideki Matsui play?

By definition....

….Matsui and Damon can’t platoon. They both bat lefthanded.

Management

Girardi is about second to Billy Martin in the history of Yankees managers who lack patience for players’ antics. Martin would go nuts with a guy like Manny, as he did with Reggie (though it would be worse with Manny). Girardi already has to deal with Prima-Donn-A-Rod, Cano’s occasional lackadaisicalness in the field and jumping on bad pitches, and Cabrera’s refusal to stop sliding head-first into first. Bob Klapisch’s article today may be overblowing the situation and not giving Girardi, who I really like, enough credit. But if the dude won’t allow candy or ice cream in the clubhouse, I really can’t see him allowing a guy like Manny. Torre clearly can handle Manny for at least 3 months, so I could better see us signing Manny if he were still our manager, just as we signed Gary Sheffield and others who weren’t exactly the best of teammates. Somehow Torre had the ability to keep all our high-salaried superstars’ personalities in check to work as a team and win ball games. He finessed them and stroked them and gave them all enough playing time. Girardi doesn’t mess around. I don’t think Jeter would appreciate it either. Maybe it would work, and maybe the presence of Damon could channel Manny’s impishness into the dugout and clubhouse and keep it off the field, but I wouldn’t want to take the chance when we have such a great opportunity to win in 2009 and beyond with our new rotation, and when we don’t even need a corner outfielder or DH to begin with.
