Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

ENOUGH!

We need to put an end to the over paying of players. I don't care who they are or what they have done. Players should want to play with the Yankees and be willing to take a cut in pay to have a shot at a ring every year. Especially if their numbers have declined and have been taken care of in the past. Loyalty is not part of the game anymore, and loyalty doesn't win championships. That's how we need to run this operation. Stop milking us and go play in Anaheim for all I care.  Whatever a guy is worth on the market,.....THAT IS ALL HE GETS!!!! I'm tired of hearing about our payroll for no other reason than OVER SPENDING. You want to spend, by all means spend your ass off. Let's not over spend. It's bad buisness, it makes management look desperate and soft, and it sends a message to agents that we can be taken advantage of. If a player wants more than he's worth then goodbye.

The whole advantage of a high payroll is so you can overpay.

If you were to only offer a player “what he is worth”, and other teams were to do the same, then you would not be landing the players the Yanks want. Some players would choose the yanks over other clubs, but certainly not all of them, or even a majority. What you gain by having a $200mil payroll is the ability to give a guy an extra few million when he would rather go play on the west coast, or in the NL.

And if a player wants a shot

at a ring every year, at the moment, he’d be better off signing with the Angels, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Phillies (in that order).
The AL East is and will be too competitive for a team to rattle off a half dozen pennants the way the Yanks did from 1996-2003. Times have changed.

Know what I've had enough of?

This ridiculous A-Rod/Madonna thing. I realize its a big deal in the media…….but honestly – its starting to gross me out. Have you guys seen Madonna lately? She’s like 50. A-Rod could have some ridiculously hot 22 yr old Vickie’s Secret model….and he chooses Madonna?!?

Arod probably had a

“AROD” during his teen years when Madonna was in her 30’s and showing off her stuff. He now has a chance to have real live sex with his boyhood fantasy… albiet she is well beyond her child rearing years and has to take hormone replacement meds, but hey… a lot of people have had sex with a lot worse (and wanted too)

OMG

PLEASE I HATE IT WHENPEOPLE SAY THAT
I M A YANKEES FAN
NOBODY CARES THAT MUCH ABOUT THE YANKS
NOBODY WILL TAKE A PAY CUT JUST SO THEY CAN PLAY FOR THE YANKS
THE YANKEES HAVE JUST AS MUCH OF A SHOT TO WIN A RING NEXT YEAR AS THE GODDAMNED METS DO

alright now that i got that out of the way i have to agree with you they shouldn’t be overpaying for their players just so they can win this year. but you know what the yankees have so much money and are about to get even richer thanks to a new stadium, they might as well fill some needs
See other teams out there don’ have that much money look at the A’s everytime someone is due for a contract they trade him away for some prospects, let those prospects mature have some success, then trade ‘emaway when they need a cotract. the cycle goes on they gotta do more with less
if you want to sign a marquee free agent your gonna have to overpay no matter who you are
the window for a championship is begining to close on this team matsui, damon, jeter and posada are all enering the downside of their careers. A-Rod’s got a few years left in himand Cano is young but thats it. the rotationis young and has alot of potential and AustinJackson is raking in the minors but other than that the Yanks should find a way to collect som more young talent
