The Lament-A.J. Burnett
I've been excited. I've got to admit I've been excited.
The Yanks are throwing weight around and it's striking a nostalgic chord.
But I looked at A.J.'s stats on baseball-reference.com, and got fucked in the ear.

Are those real numbers, I asked myself? Or another cruel hoax of free-agencies past?
He also walked 86 guys. At least it's not a hundred.

Burnett suffered from an elevated balls in play average last year. There’s nothing he can do about that.
And yes, 86 walks allowed is on the high side….but so are 234 strikeouts, which gave him a steller K/BB ratio of about 3:1.
There is no parallel between Carl Pavano and AJ Burnett. Burnett has the reportoire and the peripheral statistics to be a solid, front-end starter. Pavano never did.
