Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

George King reports that the Yanks want to add either Tex or Manny to the lineup to help offset the loss of Abreu and Giambi.

While I wouldn't mind the sight of Teixeira in pinstripes, the Manny idea frightens me. He'd have to DH because between his arm in right and his range in left I don't like what he does to the defense. So the Yanks would have to ship out one of the outfielders (with Nady the easiest to move- which of course leaves us without a RF).

Hopefully, this is just George A. King III making shit up (again) on a slow news day.

King George

I would love to see Tex, but is he TOO expensive, Dye, there was a rumor a couple of years ago that the Yankees were thinking about trading Abreu for Dye. NO WAY should the Yankees sign Manny, He is a cancer in the clubhouse.

Too Expensive

for a top 5 hitter in baseball. Too expensive is $82M and $40M for pitchers who are injury prone and aren’t established top-of-the-rotation starters like Burnett and Pavano. If you’re going to post here show an IQ above 10.

whoa

cool it with personal attacks. he has a different opinion than you. deal with it.

How much of that "cancer" stuff is blown out of proportion?

He wasn’t a “cancer” when the bosox won 2 WS, in fact it seems like he was one of the most beloved sox around. He wasn’t a “cancer” when he carried the Dodgers to the playoffs. People always point to how he “quit the team” in july, meanwhile he hit .347 .473 .587 while playing more games than ortiz, lowell and jd drew. He was unhappy about his contract situation, which is understandable, but his play didn’t show it at all. Plus you can’t tell me that manny wouldn’t be motivated to put up a few monster seasons for NYY just to stick it to the redsox.

Decent points...

…particularly the last one. But there’s gotta be a reason the Sox couldn’t put up with his BS despite his outstanding offense; teams don’t get rid of their best bat unless there’s a damn good reason. And there’s also gotta be a reason the Dodgers are the only team currently offering him a contract.

agreed

if it was blown out of proportion he would still be on the Red Sox.. Terry Francona was quoted somewhere saying that the second half of last season was the most fun he’s had as a manager = NO MANNY. This is Francona who is a pretty easy going guy… I think Manny to the Yanks is a nightmare waiting to happen- Joe G ain’t exactly easy going, and that could get ugly quick.

Would love to see Tex in Pinstripes too, and while he is pricey- they could get him at $20M and still have cut payroll a touch. I don’t see it happening though.. Dye is fine, but the Yanks really don’t need another aging outfielder. Especially when aging outfielders are out there to be had for just $$ – instead having to deal prospects as well.

The more I think about it

the more sure I am that an outfielder makes no sense at all unless it’s a centerfielder.

Actually...

…if we sign Pettitte, Tex, and Cameron, we’d increase our payroll by at least $11 million over 2008.

Texiera

I really doubt that we would get involved, even though we should. It would just be too much to go out and get him, especially after the offseason we already have had. Manny is an all world hitter, but he is a space cadet, who I would be highly worried about in NY, specifically when it comes to the NY media

1 Year

Anyone who gives Manny a contract over a year long is out of their mind. Thats the only way I would take him, because then you know he would be playing for next seasons money (ala the stretch run with LA) That would give us time to shop/ trade for/develop (whats that mean?) a long term option.

Bat for hire.

dye?

eh. nice, but we’d have to part with prospects to get him. since we’ve already lost our 1st rounder to Milwaukee, why not go for another type-A FA, in which it costs nothing but money? (we already have a completely protected 1st rounder from Cole).

i wouldn’t want to go 3 for Manny, but would be ok with 2. i dont worry about him adjusting to the NY ‘spotlight’, which he did fine with in Boston and LA, not exactly small baseball markets. and perhaps best of all, he would take a lot of pressure off Arod.

to be quite honest-

i would rather have abreu back than dye. i know i may get hammered for that sentiment, but the guys is good in front of Arod

i agree for the most part

Dye’s power numbers are better, but the rest of the numbers are quite similar, at least from last season:
Dye: .292 AVG, .344 OBP, 96 RBI, 172 H, 104-44 K-BB
Abreu: .296 AVG, .371 OBP, 100 RBI, 180 H, 109-73 K-BB

Manny

I still think that Manny is like Terrell Owens. He did throw a 64 year man down steps because he didn’t get Manny enough tickets for family and friends. Do we really want an unhappy Manny playing for the Yankees. Remember Randy Johnson’s first day in New York with reporters. awful
