Searching for a Silver Lining

Here's my crazy thought for the day:
Maybe AJ's good health last season is more than just luck. Maybe he's figured out what sort of work-out regiment he needs to follow in-season and off-season to stay on the mound.

just a hunch

my guess is that your new manager is the liability for you next year

I think he can coach a big front runner, but I doubt he’ll succeed under pressure

the Yanks are better, but probably only good enough to battle Sox for 2nd if the Rays pitchers do as well as last year. Big if.

Yanks still have a hole in the batting order. So do Sox

If Angels keep Tex, then it will come down to heart, injuries and the manager

Girardi gives the Sox the edge, I think

You're right

That marlins team he coached had a payroll of what 10, 20 million?

Maybe he tried hard because

he was pitching for big free agent dollars?

Under the Yanks

Burnett won’t have to be the “go to” guy. He’s the third starter in he rotation (albeit an expensive one) and won’t have the the expectations of victory or the pressure to preform that CC and CMW will. Burnett will come through under those circumstances.

As for the hitter we’ll need, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a multiplayer blockbuster with the Brew Crew. We’ll take Cameron and Fielder and some prospect in exchange for IPK, Melky and probably Robbie Cano along with some prospects.

I'd love that, except...

…I don’t think the Brewers are interested in trading young talent under team control like Fielder. Nor would they likely trade him without Phil Hughes. IPK is not as hot a commodity, nor is Cano.

i could Hughes going in a trade

of that magnitude… could be the bronx brew crew in ’09.

i don’t think cano is on the brewers list.. hardy-weeks-braun leaves no room in the infield… and people seem to forget that cano’s got a bunch of money attached to him now, so i think it is unlikely he goes anyway this offseason.

Tigers

the Tigers havn’t made any moves, and they need to improve on their team if they wich to make the playoffs next season. Any chance they decide to put Miguel Cabrera/Magglio Ordonez on the Market is their season goes down the drain

I heard somewhere

that halladay supposedly gave burnett tips on how to refine his mechanics to put less stress on his elbow. I can’t find the article now and it was probably made up, but at this point i’m willing to believe anything if it means he can reproduce last season.

Burnett's Mechanics are godawful

Burnett has a lot of things wrong with his delivery, biomechanically speaking, that place a significant amount of stress of both his anterior shoulder muscles/tendons and his elbow ligaments. I highly doubt that he has revised these mechanics in one off season, and I think, unfortunately, that he is likely to get injured again in the near future.

He is similar to the Pavano signing in that he just had a career year (evidenced by the career high in wins and k’s) and he is a huge injury risk. Unlike Pavano, however, he has been decently good over his career, when healthy, and is an above average pitcher.
