ERA isn't a great indicator. Burnett had the 14th best tRA* in baseball last year.
Assuming he stays healthy, this is a good deal.
but
his career FIP and ERA is pretty much the same, so it’s hard to say that he really got unlucky over his career.
tRA takes a lot more into account
FIP is just BABIP-based, whereas tRA not only takes more into account but uses proven run values for each event (K, BB, GB, etc).
actually
his FIP was about .6 below his ERA. quite good.

not wild but can warmup to this
I think I’ve said this before I’m not so much worried about the injuries as i am about the chemistry…but apparently the guys (Jeter and the like) were making calls urging him to sign with the Yanks…i am encouraged he was 5-0 against the Sucx. last year. That can’t be underestimated and he did with with the Jays. Certainly if we sign Andy or another pitcher this has meant the plan is and perhaps always was the plan for Joba to be in the pen and prepare to take mo’s role whenever 42 plans on retiring.
He has Ace-stuff.
He’s a decent ace, great #2 pitcher, and unbelievable #3. If you have this guy pitching as your # 4 then you have the best rotation ever.

to do this, you should look at this entire career
which doesnt totally agree with just 08’s stats:
he’s better on turf.
inside and outside are virtually identical.
he’s also considerably better at home than away.
