If Baseball Always Had 2 Divisions
THT recalculates the standings to imagine what the playoff picture would have looked like if MLB had always followed the 2 tier playoff format adopted in 1969.
From 1926-1952, the Yanks go to the dance 21 out of 27 times. They only missed the playoffs in consecutive years from '29-'31 during the Philly A's dynasty, and they win the division 12 consecutive times from 1934-1935.

My friend sent me this early this AM...
and it is a great article!!! We spent hours discussing this. I really enjoyed it and how the writer put together the division splits and projected the W-L records. It is interesting to see how some teams would be projected to pile up division titles upon division titles while others it didn’t affect all that much. I did see the St. Louis Browns would’ve made it to the post season 3 times instead of once.
Articles like this, while just a “what if….” make the off-season a little bit more bearable. I wish I had checked here last night I could’ve gotten the scoop on my friend.
With the Yanks making the playoffs that many years you have to wonder how many Series victories they may have been able to achieve!!! 26 may have been passed a long time ago. :)
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.-Rogers Hornsby
