Yankees offer C.C. $137 MILLION.

As much as I love C.C., i'm just not sure. But we do have to make another big splash entering the stadium, but I have a feeling he's going to pass on us. I think he loves the National League enough to stay out there and I also feel he's a great regular season pitcher, but not playoff pitcher as evident. The pressure will get to him here in nYC.

that's about right
I figured they would be just above santana territory in terms of salary. CC makes me nervous with all the innings he’s pitched in the last few seasons, but I’d love to have him in pinstripes

cc woes
sabathia is a very emotional guy. he lets his emotions get the better of him. i feel like he took a good step with Millwalkee last season in the playoffs in controlling those emotions durring the playoffs.
he has pitched alot of innings and i was also origionally worried about that. but his large frame and solid conditioning has helped to prevent injuries.(knock on wood) he didnt just dive into tons of innings(like tim lincecum) he has pitched a high level for awhile now. i dont think it will hurt his arm too much also because of his decent mechanics.

The value of a dollar.
Let’s see…
The state of New York as of May ‘08 projected a $4 billion (that’s right, BILLION) deficit.
Some of the funding of New Yankee stadium is subsidized by FEDERAL tax payer municipal bonds. (so, people who don’t even live in New York are helping to build the stadium).
…And yet, some guy (who didn’t even win the Cy Young award) is getting offered $137 million by the Yankees? DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW WHAT THE VALUE OF A DOLLAR IS ANYMORE?
- Yep, CITI field is being supported by bonds as well. Those issuing the bonds will have to be paid back by the METS in the form of taxes.

Puhleez
In case you weren’t paying attention, Sabathia didn’t win the Cy Young because he pitched in two different leagues and didn’t have enough starts in the NL to qualify.
But is there any doubt he would have won it if he pitched the entire season in Milwaukee?
His NL numbers:
11-2, 1.65 ERA, 1.00 WHIP with 7 complete games and threw at least 7.0 IP in 13 of his 17 starts.
And since you’re focused on the hardware, he did win the Cy Young in 2007.

You might want to take a visit to MLB.com
C.C. Finished fourth this year in the NL Cy Young contest. Two different leagues? So what, apparently he was considered. The beginning of the season, he was junk. Seems to me he just feasted on poor NL batting to bolster his stats.
Also, have you paid attention to his post season performance. Less than stellar.
Yeah, so he won the Cy Young in 2007…AND CHOKED IN THE PLAYOFFS.
Lou Pinella won the NL manager of the year this year but he didn’t even make it to the NLCS. Hardware means two things…Jack and Shit.
He’s not worth $137 million. No one is. The yanks are once again, desperate. Trying to buy a championship again.

When the Yanks were winning rings, they had one of the top rotations in baseball.
They are overpaying for him because revamping the starting rotation with guys who eat a ton of innings is the quickest way to build a championship-caliber ball club.
Take a good look at this thread from last week and it explains why those teams were so good.
It began with strong starting pitching as it always does.
BTW, I don’t see any championship rings on the fingers of Johan Santana. He hasn’t exactly pitched his teams to the promise land either in MIN or with the Mets last season.

Worthy points
As far as Johan goes (for this year), were it not for the bullpen, the METS would have had a damn good chance of competing for a ring.

lets talk cash
want are we gonna do with Met fans?
Its not like the Yankees are the only ones giving out tons of cash. Lots of other teams are paying guys tons. Look how much the Mets gave Santana. obviously c.c. doesnt deserve all of that money, but thats how it is and theres not much anyone can do about it. Also no duh they are trying to put together a championship team, thats the point of competitive baseball, to win. something the Mets don’t do very often.

Desperate?
Yea why is metsfan calling the yankees desparate for offering cc his market value? We dropped 80 million in payroll this year bud, we can afford it. This offer has no semblance of desparation, it’s a confident contract offer in a very expensive market. The signing of cy young candidate major league starting pitchers who the least of command 10 million plus per yr in today’s market takes at least 20/mill per season to get serious consideration.
Perfect example, mets fan gave pedro 4 yr contract to make sure they obtained his services 4 yrs ago and that seemed like a stretch at the time.
Risks have to be taken in terms of contract length and dollars to obtain the starting pitching a team feels best fits their needs and cc fits the yankees perfectly!

oh believe me...
…I’m not a big fan of Omar signing long term contracts to AARP members.
I chose the word desperate because Steinbrenner and Co. are livid that they’ve shelled out so much money for so many players and haven’t won a series since 2000. I think that Steinbrenner would love nothing more than to have the Yanks compete for the title this year since it’ll be the grand opening of “New” Yankee stadium. Geez, could you imagine the hype from the media?
I guess the C.C. offer is just upsetting as well for baseball fans in general because once again, this uptick in the salary of players is being dictated by the Yankees. It just isn’t justifiable considering what the fans have to pay already.

Here it is 4 days later and
No word on CC. I would say his silence speaks volumes and withdraw the bid immediately.
137 million and no word yet?? Must be nice to be in a position where you can “wait and see” if better offers come in.
