Moose or Pettite

Leaving emotion out of the equation, who would you rather have for next year? Moose or Pettite?

Moose had the better year, and I think he's probably more capable of pulling off another good year than Pettite at this point. He seems like the Greg Maddux type who can probably keep you in games with 5-7 innings of work until he's 43. I worry that as Pettite continues to age he'll lose everything that made him effective earlier. He had a pretty solid first half of the year and seemed to drop off a bit in the last couple of months. I think this is probably an indication that he can't carry the load of a full season anymore.

I only ask because it seems everyone that has an opinion on the matter picks Pettite. I understand he was a big part of the franchise for 10 years, but you can't just make these decisions based on loyalty or emotion.

What a difference a year makes

A year ago, people were saying quite the opposite about these two guys. Pettitte would be welcomed back with open arms and Moose should retire.

Well, the Yanks may not have to make a choice here because Moose may just decide to hang it up.

But don’t count out Pettitte by any means. The guy knows how to pitch and has a lot of pride. He’s going to work his ass off over the offseason and come back with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

I don’t know what’s going to happen with Moose, but I suspect Pettitte will return in 2009.

Breaking up is hard to do ...

When I think of Andy Pettitte lately, that mind-numbing Neil Sedaka song starts ringing in my head… But while I absolutely hate the song, the message it carries resonates with me—Andy’s gotta’ go. Billed as an exceptional second-half pitcher, he floundered throughout the season—but especially in the second half when it appeared that he lost speed and movement on his pitches. At times, watching him was downright painful to watch—especially since Andy is, well … Andy.

I love this guy—even in spite of the steroid crap. But as the innings and ERA mounted so did my concern that Andy might be done.

Given the choice (and I’m not certain there will be a choice), I’d have to pick Mussina. That’s not to say, Pettitte couldn’t have a similar rebirth of sorts, but in my opinion, I think he’d walk away before even attempting to do what Mussina did.

Andy

I would take Andy I think Andy I do want them both but I think Andy is the better long term guy so I hope we get both back. I would love to add a 6th man to the rotation I think that would be better one stay in the bullpen when they get tired or need rest and then swap out. Or lets say it a close game Andy is tired lets bring in the Mussina and then it just like having a guy come in the 6 or 7th inning and setting up Rivera for a save.

Andy is better long term?

Maybe we should sign him to a three year contract.
