The Moves to Make
Several sources are saying that Matt Holliday is available. This is one guy I wouldn't let the Red Sox grab. They have a need for a leftfielder, and whether we need one or not, we should make an effort. He'd be an upgrade over Matsui, Damon, or whomever else we stick out there.
Another move I'd pursue is Scott Olsen and Mike Jacobs. The Miami Sentinel is reporting that the Marlins are actively shopping both. Olsen is somewhat enigmatic, but he's young and has dynamite stuff. Jacobs' numbers are similar to Giambi's save for the salary. I think he made $375K last season. He's 28 has pop to all fields, and might be just coming into his prime.

I’d pass on Holliday right now. We already have a glut of corner outfielders (before we even consider the possiblity of resigning Abreu) but no center fielder who can hit. Holliday isn’t really THAT young (29 on opening day) and will require trading prospects who can contribute and a contract extension. Considering that he’s a phenomenal star at Coors Field and merely a good player everywhere else, if we want him that badly, we can wait until he’s a free agent. It isn’t that difficult to find a corner outfielder who can post an .875 OPS.
I’d pass on Jacobs too. You see his .299 OBP? I’d take Giambi over Jacobs.
I’ll pass on Olson too. He’s had a declining K/9 ratio each of the last 3 years while mainting less than a 2:1 K/BB ratio. He’d get slaughtered in the big boy league.

Im going to,
pass on the above 3 as well. Holliday is that sexy name that everyone will be intrigued by and willing to overpay for. Im hoping the Yankees dont get involved in that bidding, unless it is to just drive up the bargain.

Forget about trading unless it's major league player swaps.
We need to develop from our farm. I really hate the fact that our 2008 draft was horrible. Cashman better step it up.

Holliday is awesome, I know we have a lot of outfielders…but Holliday is better than all of them. He’s posted a 120+ wOBA+ last season and he had a higher bRAA than anyother AL player not named Alex Rodriguez last season, he’s awesome.

Holliday
Matt Holliday’s career #‘s away from Coors are basically the same as Jason Varitek’s career #‘s overall. He is severely inflated by Coors field, and ordinary away. He is not an upgrade over Jason Bay, so I don’t see why the Sox would move for him. I don’t know what the dimensions of the new Yankee stadium will be, but if the left field is like the old one then I don’t see Holliday putting up spectacular numbers there (e.g. slightly above average park factor down the line, below average in left center, and harder than Coors all the way around). When you factor in the superior pitching in the AL East, I would guess Holliday would dissapoint.

Re: Holliday, Olsen
Holliday would cost way too much in prospects for a one year rental, especially when there is so much offensive talent available for just money. He is a good player, and the Coors advantage is overstated, but it’s just not a sound fit for the Yankees.
As for Olsen, he has had diminishing returns on his K/9 over each of the past three years, has poor control and a huge homerun rate in a pitcher’s park in Florida. He would get absolutely eaten alive in the AL East. He’s the very definition of an NL pitcher, and the Yankees should stay the hell away.

How do
the Sox have a need for a LFer? Bay is in left, Ellsbury in CF, Drew in RF, with Crisp backing up….

Huh?
If you’re Theo Epstein and you have an opportunity to add a high average, power bat to your lineup—especially considering the loss of Manny and the severe drop-off of Papi wouldn’t you find a way? Holliday can play first—so can Drew. Frankly, Holliday in my opinion would make Bay expendible … I’m just throwing ideas.

Have you...
…ever looked at Holliday’s numbers away from Coors? Why is he an upgrade over Bay? His best OPS of his career away is the same as Bay’s overall average OPS. He indeed would likely to hit for higher average, but with less power. When you factor in that he is a similar age and likely more costly (both money+years=Boras), it does not make sense. Regardless of what you might think of Theo (see: Julio Lugo) he is not that dumb.

We really need a young corner OF.
We should pursue:
Jeremy Hermida
Billy Butler
Dan Murphy
Delmon Young(We could probably get him really, really cheap)
Jeff Francoeur
Lastings Milledge(my favorite option)
Chase Headley
Ryan Sweeney
Steve Pearce
Joe Mather(I really like him)
[insert top 50 prospect]
Basically potential great players who wouldn’t cost us someone like Hughes or Cano.
