A hat tip to the Red Sox
WE do not love this team. Really!
But you have to admit last night's game was one for the ages. However this series comes out, the Red Sox have shown themselves to be a great team and a team to be respected for years to come.
At the start of the year I picked the Sox to finish 3rd. ((No I didn't have the Rays I had Toronto) I thought they were getting old and that they couldn't win if they lost Manny, Poppy, or both. In the year they have shown that they have a system that is producing players. The team that came back last night had key contributions from the old guard, Pappy and Paplebaum were great. They had key contributions from people they recently brought in ( Bay and Drew) but the eye popper was the play of their young position players and pitchers.
Much as I hate to say it, Well done. Very nice.
As for those who extolling improved defense. The Rays great defense was what let them down in the end last night in my eyes, wasn't it? You gotta have the pitchers.

Ah, no.
I deeply hate the Sox, and I’m not a real fan of that pseudo-franchise in Tampa, either. I watched some movies with the kids last night, and then, following SportsCenter I read a chapter from Eid’s book on Gehrig (great read BTW).

wow
thanks.
it’s funny to be in the position of “most hated” team/fans formerly held by the yankees. i guess once you win too much, everyone hates you. i think it’s funny given that the red sox really haven’t won THAT many times.
yankees-red sox rivalry is the best in all of sports. looking forward to battling it out w/you guys next season.

No
The Yankee fans hate the Sox mostly because their fans are such classless idiots.

Nope
That’s not why you hate us. You like to think that it is; it isn’t.

Because Yankee fans as well are classless idiots. Here’s your logic:
You hate Red Sox fans because they are classless idiots.
Other teams hate Red Sox fans because they are classless idiots.
People hate the Yankees because they are jealous.
Sox fans have every bit of class as Yankee fans do. Yankee fans just feel like they are above everyone and have the nerve to call Red Sox fans, who are seen as exactly the same as Yankee fans by everyone else, classless idiots.

speaking for myself
i dont think i’m ‘above everyone’ just bc i’m a Yankee fan. i’ve always tried to be respectful of other fans.
as a kid, i’d go to Yankee games, and there was this one guy who often sat in my section. he always wore a hat of the opposing team, no matter who it was. that disturbed me, but i never saw him ill treated.
and i didn’t hate the sawx until i spent significant time in Boston. before going to BU, i thought it was mostly an intense but respectful rivalry. after being in Boston just a few weeks, i couldn’t believe the vitriol that spewed from their mouths about my team – stuff that was never said about the sawx in NYC. THAT’S what made me defensively begin to hate them.

Whatever
They’ve got plenty of question marks, just like the Yanks. They’ll need a new everyday catcher, their “Aces” got spanked in this series, they’ve got 3B under contact who is having hip surgery, and a less than amazing bullpen besides Papelbum. They’ve got a bunch of good young guys coming up and up already yeah, so what… Ellsbury hasn’t looked nearly as good with a full season under his belt, and I am not oohed and ahhed by frickin Jed Lowrie.
The real “hat tip” should come from the Red Sox to Joe Maddon who IMO inexcusably left Dan Wheeler out there to die- until he was dead from the killing- as if he had money on the Sox.
I don’t like the Rays (not to mention their sudden-expanding “fan”-base), but I will be hoping against hope that they finish this thing off on Saturday. And if not, and Boston takes game 7 too, it’ll have to be Phils then…

yeah anyone outside of the Red Sox Nation
that would root for Boston in this series is a communist, especially if their #1 team is a small-market club like Minnesota, Oakland, Pittsburgh, etc. The Rays should be a beacon of light for all of those teams that it is possible to build a World Series contender, even without deep pockets.

Red Sox Game
No matter how much you hate the Red Sox, you have to amit that they had one of the best games played in postseason history. Still the Yankees are better.

As of right now the sox are better. Obviously that could change, but I don’t see how you could argue your last sentence.

When I think of fan base.
Yankees: Bunch of guys who egos take over, but they’re the cooler people of society.
Red Sox: Stuck red necks who whine if their beloved cry babies don’t win.
Right now Papelbon and Youkillis are hugging each other crying about their loss.

Good to know
Unfortunately, your generalizations mean nothing because you can’t generalize the two largest fan bases in baseball.

Personally
I will never give the Red Sox a hat tip on anything. I am glad they lost and hope that they will continue to lose in the future….

NEVER
I moved to New England a few years ago and I hate the Red Sox worst than ever. Their fans are ridiculous and sports talk radio around here is like a comedy show. They are so absorbed with their home town team they can’t enjoy the game itself. They over rate their players tremendously, and won’t accept the facts until you bang them over the head with them. They are like a bunch of sheep. As a Yankee fan I never took one win for granted and every ring was a dogfight and I never expected to win only hoped that we would. They have short memories. They talk about Youkilis like he’s the next Jim Rice and don’t remember his .279 lifetime average coming into the season. Last year everyone kept saying Beckett was the best pitcher in the league, and this year it’s John Lester. David Ortiz batted 330 last year and this year they want to trade him. Varitek is the best defensive catcher maybe ever as far as the as far as Red Sox fans are concerned. They hardly ever make sense, and don’t watch baseball unless it’s the Red Sox
