Meacham FIRED.
Bye bye Bobby.
And good riddance, frankly.
Story HERE
That's an encouraging sign, imo. The only issue it brings up is Girardi's relationship with Cashman -- is it perhaps a bit tenuous? Girardi was quite adamant at the end of the season that he saw no reason to make changes to the coaching staff -- and lo and behold we have one.
I don't see the Bowa or Randolph moves happening either, as PeteA points out. Anyone got thoughts on whether Pena's a legit candidate?

I can see the Girardi situation either way
He could have been saying what he thought he had to say. Can’t say, “Maybe we’ll fire Bobby M.” You have to fire him first.
On the other hand he could be clueless and therefore on thin ice.
I do not see a move before the regular season next year, and then only if they have a horrilble start, again.

Sweet move ... regardless
Thin ice? I don’t care. Bobby Meachem is gone, and the only question I have is how could we hire a guy and give him the third base coaching position when he played a starring role in what I believe is the worst base-running blunder in the history of the Yankees?
Randolph, Bowa … Who cares? Bozo the freakin’ clown is an upgrade over Meachem… No, a double arm amputee is an upgrade over Meachem!

Meacham had to go...
He was by far the worst third base coach I have seen in a while- girardi’s not an idiot- he had to see that.
As far as Pena goes, I always wondered why he didn’t get the gig when Bowa shipped out. Maybe there’s a reason there and therefore he won’t be the guy who takes over now.
we shall see.

Willie Randolph
Is a great coach. If he is interested, even a little, we need to get him. His players always love him, and just because the weak minded Mets cant handle pressure doesn’t make that his fault. I would love to see him on our baseline. Maybe he and A-Rod can yell “Got it” every time a pop up is in the infield. Imagine it, we will never lose a game based on a pop up…

I like the thought of Willie Randolph
as the third base coach. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm not sure
It was only a couple years ago that we were all bitching about Luis “Pinswheel” Sojo.
I’m taking this as another example of Joe G. giving the untrue but PC line over creating a potential controversy.

would love
to see Willie back in pinstripes. been thinking since mid-08 that Willie could (and should) replace Meacham.

You know
Willie stood at third for so long because no one would give him a fair crack at a manager’s position. Now that he has that on his resume, I don’t see any reason for him to go back to being a coach. Bowa and Pena were regarded as done as managers when they took their jobs with the Yankees.

This is a good point, except....
I wonder how other Owners and GM’s will view the Mets blowing the lead last year and then playing so badly this year while he was their manager. Will they hire him with that on his resume? I honestly don’t have an answer……

Well it's not like anything really changed when they fired Willie
They still choked it away on the last day. Delgado clearly dogged it for Willie all season and then turned into Albert Pujols as soon as he left.
Also, Willie is still under contract, so unless the Yanks pay him more than he is set to make, I don’t see him doing anything next year.

i disagree
that Bowa and Pena were thought of as ‘done’. former managers ‘go back’ all the time. it seemed to me (during the ceremonies at the Stadium this year) that Willie would LOVE to be back with the Yanks, almost regardless of capacity.
he might even see an opp to become manager if Girardi has another disappointing season. Willie would almost certainly be the frontrunner.

I would love to see...
Randolph back in pinstripes. I have recently looked back at old Yankee footage from the late 90’s and remember the fire Randolph had. That’s exactly what the team needs… a gutsy, aggressive 3rd base coach.
