Ken Rosenthal has the details:
The agreement is for $28 million over the next four years, with a $2 million buyout in 2012 and 2013, which would bring him to exactly $30 million. The option for 2012 is for $13 million and the option for 2013 is believed to be for about $15 million.
Hmmm... I over-spent by 17 million dollars over the 6 years.
This is a steal for the Yanks.

Its alright John
You just didn't realize they meant overpaying by a little bit not paying what they could make on the open market if they were a free agent tomorrow. Though by my accounting I think you would have overpayed him 17 million dollars over 4 years, because where this contract ends is right where you wanted to be its just you were gonna start out paying him 10 or 12 million.
And if a free agent comes along that blows our mind Cano will still be a steal compared to other 2nd basemen and he would still be very tradeable (not that I forsee that but its a possibility).
I really like this deal alot and I hope its just one of several moves that ensure out future for years to come.
