Nick Markakis,  RF
Kevin Millar,  1B
Aubrey Huff,  DH
Ramón Hernández,  C
Jay Payton,  LF
Tike Redman,  CF

Brian Burres,  LHP  (6-5,  5.47)

New York Yankees

Bobby Abreu,  RF
Alex Rodriguez,  3B
Jorge Posada,  C
Hideki Matsui,  LF
Robinson Cano,  2B
Shelley Duncan,  DH
Doug Mientkiewicz,  1B

Andy Pettitte,  LHP  (13-8,  3.89)

With the Tribe's victory over the boys from Motown this afternoon, the Yanks' magic number for the AL Wild Card is now down to 6.  Thank you, Tribe.  The Tigers are finished.

Pettitte has more career wins against the O's than any other team (20-6, 3.73 in 32 games), but he is so far winless against them in 2007 (0-1, 3.21 ERA in 2 starts).  Brian Burres has pitched well against the Yanks (1-0, 2.53 ERA in 5 games).

Yanks are 16-19 this season against LHP.

Suddenly, Doug Mientkiewicz is on a bit of a roll .462 (6-13, HR, 6 RBI) since he was activated on Sept 1st.

The featured graphic for tonight's game is the road cap logo of the St. Louis Browns from 1952 to 1953.

His roll is interesting, because he tore up his minor league rehab as well.  He said that his wrist hurts when he takes a bad swing and is fine when he has a good one, so he's being conditioned to take good swings.   If only they could wire some kind of electroshock device in to Robbie so he's zapped when he swings at a bad pitch...

Let's sweep these Birdbrains.
They only deserve it after all the hell they put us through, while not giving Boston the same fits. Toronto's pen is cocked and loaded with an off day tomorrow. So Im gunna guess that their manager (forgot his name) will pull out all the stops if Jesse begins to choke. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages this like a playoff game. Anyone agree?

I think the Jays are enjoying their spoiler status.  Gibbons might load up looking for the sweep but I think that Bucholz is going to be tough to beat.  Let's wish Jesse well tonight.

On Gay Buttholez
Well I firmly believe in baseball averaging itself out. If someone is killing it for a while he is due for a bump in the road. As a rookie pitching in uncharted terriroty (past innings cap or very close too it)I feel he's due for a butt whooping. But I have been wrong i.e. Posada, Beckett. But I've also been right i.e. Us being this close to Boston. We'll see.

Wang making a sick Taiwanese girl smile.

Abreu going to visit Hackensack Children's Hospital tomorrow.

And he says Shelley Duncan will be up in Boston kicking puppies and signing autographs.

That's some funny stuff.

I rooted for the Mets in 86
and they insulted the Yankees in the dynasty run of the late 90s AND many Mets fans in NY rooted against them.  I'll never root for them again.
Screw them.  If they played the Sux in the series I'd go to Europe or something.  Screw the both of them.

Nope. Mo's in to shut the door - as he should be.

While it's important Mo gets rest, it's also important he doesn't get too much - when he doesn't pitch often, he gets rusty.

Besides, he only pitched to a couple batters in the first game. Should be fine.

Re: C'mon Mo
It's hard to see Mo come down...he had four straight sub-2 ERA seasons before this year.

Fuck
Throw some strikes, Mo. End this damn game.

by PsiFighter37 on Sep 19, 2007 10:02 PM EDT reply actions

A really stupid observation
It seems that Mo does the Moose-like crouch when he's pitching from the stretch. Anyone else get that vibe?

by SP on Sep 19, 2007 10:07 PM EDT reply actions

That weighed in Joe's decision...
knew he had the off-day.  Plus, Mo didn't pitch yesterday.  I saw no problem with bringing him in. That's his job.

cbeck your predicition is looking pretty sweet now.

16-6 finish, right?

by Clutch like Leyritz on Sep 19, 2007 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Anaconda,
can we get cbeck front page capabilities if we take the division? Seems only fair, considering he was laboring in the vines when nobody else was.

That's not my call
it's John's call.

However, if any of you guys create a well thought out diary -- Amato, Jscape, or myself would be happy to front page it.

by anaconda on Sep 19, 2007 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, my vote
is that cbeck gets front-paged for at least a week if we win the division.

But that's just my 2 cents.

Re: Game #152
All we have to do is tie Boston?
If they go 5-4 to end the season we would still have to go 7-3. Right?

RSN leaping from windows
Sox in turmoil.  Fran-coma is "resting" Oki, Wake, Dicey.  Papel-bum gives up a Slam.  Manny apparently doesn't want to play.  It doesn't get better than this.
Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???

Re: RSN leaping from windows

to be fair.  Manny is hurt.

On the otherhand, the RSocks have depended for years an Manny and Poppy.  Since they are getting old and never really in shape this might be predictable.

Re: RSN leaping from windows
but they have such a great lineup behind them.  like jd drew and varitek...

the sox are finally starting to look like the team they were supposed to be on paper.

Re: RSN leaping from windows
Also,

If you saw the highlights from tonight's game, Lugo came up with the bases loaded in the later innings and hit a flare to the shortstop. The SS bobbled the ball and threw to first to nip Lugo.

The replay showed Lugo not running hard at all to first until after he saw the bobble.

He is going to get torched for that tomorrow.

They are taking on water at a Titanic pace.

On Manny
I read in Boston paper that Manny has been hitting bombs in BP, but says he's not ready.  If you can do that, you should be able to DH, (oh thats right Papi doesn't won a glove) or at least PH.

Oh and in my rundown above, how could I forget Gag?  Ya gotta believe some part of Theo's decision was to sign the Gagster and keep him away from the Yankees.

Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???
