Stick's talent evalutation...

Premature senility, possibly accelerated by heavy doses of Bud Light have wiped out my memory on Gene Michaels situation.  I've seen some of you talk about his great feel for developing players, and I believe he is still buried in the organization somewhere, but what happened to Michael?  Why is he not in a more prominent role?  Is his talent assessment still valid?  Does he carry any weight with Cashman?

He's paid, but limited
he wanted Hughes up last year and told Mussina to lift weights last year...

Looks like he was right
about Mussina.  The experts reviewing Moose's good performance against the Jays said the rest did him a lot of good, and his lack of strength directly affected his curve not breaking downward.  Hughes probably benefitted from the extra time in the minors last year,
Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???

Hughes
I really hope a winter of rest gets him back to 100% with his legs so hopefully he can regain his stuff that he had in the minors, especially if Buccholz is going to continue to excel for the Sawx.

Okay, a little
dramatic there with Bucholz

Did I miss something
check his minor league numbers and his debut so far. Is it really a stretch to think he will be good?

Only
if you think Hughes sucks and that IPK will amount to a 4th starter.

He and Kennedy have nearly identical numbers.

Way to go
Solid effort thanking him for posting something completely irrelevant and unrelated to my argument. I happen to think that mustard is better than mayo, so are you ready to thank me for that too?

I like actually
mustard more than mayo, but maybe not mayo and ketchup together.  You said Clay will continue to excel after he has pitched only a handful of games.  You probably said the same thing about Hughes after his no-hit Texas game and he has gotten smacked around until recently.  Bucholz may become good or great, but saying he will continue to excel is dramatic at this point

You misinterpret my point
Obviously by continuing to excel, I am not suspecting a sub 2 ERA. I am speaking more of the general expectation that he will be a good pitcher, just like I also spoke about the winter hopefully returning Hughes' legs thereby returning him to the general expectation that he will be a good pitcher. If the leg isn't the reason why he is pitching like this, we might have issues because his velocity and bite on his curve are way off what it was pre-injury.

What about
the blackberry questions i asked yesterday.  Do you have that problem too, I didn't before.

Oh, guess
you didn't see it.  I think you said you sometimes post from your blackberry.  I got a newer model yesterday (8800).  When I went onto the PA site to log in, it wouldn't let me. On my previous blackberrys I could log in. Do you have this problem also?

No
I have the 8800 too and I post with it. It is a pain in the ass to scroll down a long thread, but I can access the site and log in.

Uh, what?
My point in this thread was about Clay, not Hughes or IPK. I was assailed for thinking that he will turn out to be a good pitcher, despite both his minor league and major league stats clearly supporting my position.

Difference
between good and "continues to excel".

by matthaggs on Sep 13, 2007 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Obviously
anyone who took my earlier post to suggest that I expected him to post a sub-2 ERA is a fucking retard. At this point, it is foolish to think he won't be as good or better than Hughes going forward.

Exactly
You just confirmed the accuracy of ReLaunch's original reply to your moronic post, which, to refresh your memory, was "continue to excel" is a dramatic comment.
