New Rotation Twists
Moose's rebound game adds a little intrigue to the rotation for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs. Much as I hate to repeat a David Justice comment, he was right in pointing out that he'd take a revamped Moose over Kennedy in the post. I'd actually say the same goes for Hughes. Question is, is Moose revamped? I think a little time off did him good, and he pitched more than respectably tonight. So he's going to get another start or two to find out if tonight or his previous few starts was/were the fluke.
If he performs at or better than Kennedy and Hughes' levels---good enough, but nothing to bank on in a 7 game series--and Rocket continues to battle inflammation and blisters, who're the odd men out in the post season?

I've been thinking about it
We've got two flex spots because of Pavano and Phillips on the 60 day DL. But we can still only take 25 players.
- C- Posada
- 1B- Giambi
- 2B- Cano
- 3B- Alex
- SS- Jeter
- LF- Damon
- CF- Melky
- RF- Abreu
- DH- Matsui
- B- Molina
- B- WB
- B- Shelley
- SP- Wang
- SP- Pettitte
- SP- Clemens
- SP- IPK
- RP- Mo
- RP- Joba
- RP- Hughes
- RP- Viz
- RP- Farnsy
- RP- Edwar
- RP- Ohlendorf
- RP- Moose
Does it matter?

I would venture to say Villone or Henn
That being said, I also don't think there's any way the Yankees are carrying 13 pitchers on the postseason roster. Here's who I see:
C - Posada
1B - Mientkiewicz
2B - Cano
SS - Jeter
3B - A-Rod
OF - Damon, Abreu, Matsui, Cabrera
DH - Giambi
Bench - Betemit, Molina, Duncan
SP - Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Mussina (sorry, but I have this feeling that Torre's going to take Moose in the rotation as the 4th starter as long as he doesn't completely suck again down the stretch)
Relief: Rivera, Chamberlain, Farnsworth, Vizcaino, Henn, Ramirez, Hughes
Basically, I see one relief spot open. Given that there are essentially 2 long relief guys (Hughes, Henn) in the 'pen, I don't see the need for IPK, DeSalvo, or any of the other spot starters from this season. If Ohlendorf does well in the last few weeks, may it's him. If not, it'll probably be Bruney.

Should've added one more possibility

D'oh
You're right. No matter how well Ohlendorf pitches, if it comes down to him or a lefty, the lefty is going.
Probably Villone.

Kennedy
However, I think Kennedy is the odd man out unless he pitches lights out his next 2-3 starts -- beginning tonight in Toronto. I say that because I don't think Torre is going to want to carry that many starters in the pen during the ALDS.
Hypothetically speaking, if Moose starts Game 4, Hughes is next in line to be the long man. Adding Kennedy to the pen means you are planting 2/3 of the "Holy Trinity" into roles they've never had during their young careers.
If Hughes starts Game 4, Moose will be the long man, and again, there will be little use for Kennedy. I'd be downright shocked if Kennedy was chosen to start Game 4 over Hughes or Moose.
I think Torre would rather have another experienced arm in the pen like Britton or Villone instead. That's not to say I wouldn't choose Kennedy over Villone, but we're speculating on what Torre will do. He'll probably add Villone if it comes down to having a lefty in the pen.
Hopefully, these young guys start pitching lights out the last couple of weeks and force their way onto the roster. Southpaws or not, I don't think Henn or Villone are worth carrying simply because they are lefties.
This team hasn't had a "lefty specialist" who could get lefties out all season and they're now 21 games over .500.

stinky left handers and postseason rosters

For future reference...
I don't know why, but that's the way it is.
I encounter goofy quirks like that on PA all the time when writing my own threads.

this is what i see
1B: giambi
2B: cano
SS: jeter
3B: arod
LF: Damon
CF: Melky
RF: Abreu
DH: Matsui
Bench: Betemit, Shelley, Molina, Minky
Starters: Wang, Pettite, Clemens, Mussina
Relievers: Mo, Viz, Joba, Phil, Edwar, Farns, IPK, Britton/Henn
I think that last roster spot for another pitcher is going to be the hard decision. Personally, i think its going to be either Britton or Henn. Go with the lefty who cant get anyone out just to have a lefty? I hope not....go with britton

it might be
I remember a few years ago when wells backed out, brown bombed, and vasquez didnt fair much better.
Other than pettite and wang, i dont trust anyone in this rotation. I do not have a problem going with clemens and mussina, as i think its the right decision if they perform down the stretch. If they get hurt or get lit up, kennedy and phil will be sooo valuable to have in the pen for a spot start or long relief
