Canseco gunning for A-Rod Now

Canseco says he has some dirt on A-Rod. I hope it's not true, but who knows? I suppose it could be.  In this article it's actually Chipper Jones who is now stirring the pot on this. (as an aside,I hate that guy for some reason. I guess one thing is he's a grown man with the moniker of a 4 year old)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Chipper Jones predicted Alex Rodriguez will be the next player answering questions about steroids if he gets close to breaking the home run record.

The Atlanta Braves star said Wednesday that A-Rod probably will face suspicions about steroid use -- just as new home run king Barry Bonds has -- because Jose Canseco recently hinted he has salacious information to disclose about Rodriguez.

''I don't doubt it,'' Jones said. ''There's been a lot of validation to some of the things that Jose Canseco has said over the years. At first when it came out a lot of people didn't want to give him a lot of credit for it. But a lot of it has been proven true. Now, when he opens his mouth, people listen. And unfortunately, this cloud is following probably two of the best players of this century.''

Here's the rest of it. What do you think guys?

This part is the worst
Jone: "And it's not just (Bonds and Rodriguez), but they're the poster children because they are the two best players in the game, or have been."

In one sentence, he puts Bonds and A-Rod on equal footing with no evidence to back it up.  There is plenty of evidence on Bonds, obviously.  But one whisper for Canseco and suddenly A-Rod is a poster boy?  Give me a break.

And I happen to believe that A-Rod didn't do it, simply based on his body.  He's been about the same size his who career, he has no large veins and he doesn't look like Frankenstein - unlike Bonds, McGwire and Giambi.

Plus
he wouldn't have risked all that trouble with the hooker if he couldn't enjoy it.

I seriously have no idea who may or may not have used.  There's a part of me that suspects every single player.  Remember that it's the 110 pound speedsters like Alex Sanchez who've tested positive.
Steroids is a blanket term for drugs that increase strength, endurance, and recovery.  I don't know how a person's body will react to different chemicals.
Could the fact that Alex has played 1068 of 1086 games be an indicator?
He played on those Texas clubs with Palmiero and Pudge (whom I suspect, see: 20 point weight loss between 2003 and 2004).

It's true
you can't tell with some of the guys.  It's been a lot of pitchers taking the stuff too.

I guess Jones is pretty sure he didn't do it or he wouldn't call out A-Rod like that.

Palmiero
was pretty sure too.

After all
we have found out the last few years, I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Me too
It is sad, but that is the way I see it too. That being said, Chipper does have the second worst nickname in baseball. First place for me goes to the guy who goes by Coco Crisp, which sounds like the star of some burlesque drag show.

their dream to be named Coco and Chipper.  Don't ruin their dream.

Coco Crisp
is cooler sounding to me than Chipper Jones. I actually kind of like Coco Crisps name.

Larrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry.
Larry Jones is pretty bad too, though. Atleast his is a douche bag also. It fits the name.

It's true
illusions are pretty shattered at this point.

That said Canseco really baffles me to a large degree.  I think it's good that he broke the story. It was a bombshell at the time and one of the most important stories in all of sports.

But his motives thereafter sort of confuse me.  If you look at him, he looks like he's still juicing even though he's not playing.  He seems to be an advocate of these substances to this day.  He seems to love tarring everyone in the game with the same brush to make himself look better.

Just because...
...Canseco says he has "stuff" on Arod, it doesn't mean that has anything to do with roids. In fact, it probably doesn't... or it would have been in the first book. Arod is the biggest star in the game and Canseco knows that baseball fans, especially New Yorkers, will buy anything to deepen the Arod soap opera. I just don't see Arod as a steroids user. His numbers have been consistent. The "stuff" on Arod is probably nothing more than him banging hookers or something.

by BobbyNYC on Aug 9, 2007 9:07 AM EDT reply actions

If it's hookers
then I wouldn't care less.  That would have nothing to do with how he plays the game.  And I'd be fine with that.

by docgonzo on Aug 9, 2007 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

And may I ask
why we are turning to to Chipper Jones for his comments on the matter? What weight does his opinion on this stuff even have? It might be a bit more juicy if was somebody who has actually played with A-Rod or Canseco or both.

But the fact that Chipper is one that was interviewed baffles me.

Me as well
I don't get why Chipper was airing this stuff out at all.

I had read somewhere
that when asked about what kind of dirt Canseco has on A-rod, all Canseco said was something to the affect of "he is not the person you think he is".  That has got to be one of the broadest statements possible.  That could include such things as, A-Rod hates old people and puppies, too he is a womanizing man whore.  I think whatever Canseco has is personality or off the field based and not necessarily anything to do with A-Rod on field.

Arod and Vick
Arod hates puppies???
I appreciate Canseco opened his yap about McGwire, it needed to be said. Personally, I'd like to see some accountability from management--beginning with Selig before we continue the witchhunt.

As for Arod, unless Canseco actually inserted the needle and shows the video, I'm not buying. It's heresay, and he doesn't have a ton of credibility.

One of the smartest things I've heard said
is that if we're going to hold players out of the Hall of Fame for steroid use, we should also hold every single reporter and executive who worked during this era.
In my opinion, their silence did the game a greater disservice than the players who juiced.

As long as it isn't steroids
Part of me would be relieved if Arod turned out to be a hard partier or a womanizer. It would probably go a long way to making him seem more human to all fans. Seriously - were any of the great Yankees angels? Think about it, Reggie was an egomaniac, Joe was a prude, Mickey was a drunk, Billy was well crazy, Yogi was weird, Roger had agoraphobia, and the Babe was definitely not a saint!

Well
Lou Gehrig was pretty straight laced- he's the one that the idea of 'Yankee class' goes back to.
I wouldn't call DiMaggio a prude, from what I've read he just didn't want his wife flashing her panties to anyone but him.
Whitey Ford kept is nose clean.
Willie Randolph.
Steinbrenner couldn't dig up any dirt on Dave Winfield.
Don Mattingly.

That's just off the top of my head.

and in my mind, Lou Gehrig was probably the best of them all b/c he was just a very classy person, so it seems.
