Breaking News

Just heard it on the radio:
IPK will be starting against Tampa Bay in place of Moose.

And the peasants rejoiced!

Mussina did not talk to the media.  I'm stunned.

Sweet
I will be there Friday night to see Hughes and Saturday to see IPK. Hopefully Joba gets into one of those two so I can see the trinity.

Wow...that's surprising
I think this is a spot start more than anything because if his innings cap.

Gotta wonder how they will treat him if he pitches well.

by anaconda on Aug 28, 2007 11:16 PM EDT   0 recs

Spot start
The Yankees won't say it, but I tend to agree. Unless Kennedy is lights out, I have to think Mussina will be back in the rotation before it's all over.

That is awful news then.
Like jscape said, there are only 3 more starts needed from the #5.  Hopefully IPK has enough left in the tank for those 3.

High comedy
Bobby Murcer and David Justice on the YES postgame talking about someone (IPK) they clearly have never heard of until about 15 minutes ago.

Ervin Santana
.1 innings pitched, 5 ER.  Moose like.

Fortunately,Weaver is pitching for the M's.

5-3 M's in the 4th.

Suzyn was even worse
She went so far as to say she got a "scouting report" on IPK from Edwar Ramirez.  I'd laugh at it, but its sad.  Do these people have blinders on?
Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???

I have that feeling too, at times
But following prospects through the minors is fun for the hard-core fans and is unimportant to the average fan.

Broadcasters, especially radio broadcasters, are less knowledgable than the average fan.

Especially when your name is.....
Suzyn Waldman and is still employed because she was "grandmothered" in the organization and can't be fired.

Pathetic
that this franchise is stuck with almost nothing but imbeciles behind the mike.

Ahh the days of a
Bill White, Phil Rizzuto broadcast.

I thought tonight was
especially annoying. We have a great game, tied at two two in the middle innings, and all they can talk about is a squirrel on the foul post...
Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*** the prom queen.

Agreed
Odd choice to pair Singleton and Girardi with Kay for this series.

A double dose of boring, with a splash of moron (Kay)

Leiter, O'Neill and Flaherty all work better with Kay.

I always wondered
whose cousin she was.  Same thing with Lesley Visser.  People must love them.

We got our wish
give us the best we have in the system...Are they reading the blogs? lol

by John Amato on Aug 29, 2007 12:03 AM EDT   0 recs

They must be reading PA
What a difference a day makes. Moose is out of the rotation, Henn is sent down, and Britton and Kennedy are called up? Really? Remind me not to miss anymore games. (Except tonight. Again. Damn.)

Tim Kurkjian.....
said that Joba is the first pitcher since 1900 to throw 8 scoreless innings AND throw a K in each frame to start a career.

Not sure how STATS. INC comes up with this stuff but that's pretty impressive to say the least.

by anaconda on Aug 29, 2007 12:10 AM EDT   0 recs

Oops...
meant to say 8 "appearances" -- not innings.

by anaconda on Aug 29, 2007 3:56 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Things are looking up
If we can take 2/3 from Boston and 2/4 from the DRays, we should have the WC lead before we meet Seattle next week. They've got Cleveland after LA.

by chrisNYY on Aug 29, 2007 11:19 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

moose realized that
it was time to shut it up. Remember his indignant reply a few days ago..."who would they replace with me?" Talk about eating your words!

by DrewSD on Aug 29, 2007 3:40 AM EDT   0 recs

Hope Kennedy
is up to a pennant chase. I still feel better with Joba, but hey, at least Kennedy is a young gun. Lets go Yankees.
Lets play Billy Ball!

Another classic
from Torre on Britton

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070828&content_id=2175423&vkey=news_ny y&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy

"He seems to get people out," Torre said. "We noticed that here last time; even though he's not overpowering, he must have late movement on the ball. They weren't hitting it on the fat part of the bat."

What?
Maybe Suzyn is writing his speeches.  I just hope he gets a chance in a meaningful game.  Tonight we'll probably see Farns and Viz., in a close game.

Roger hasn't faced Red Sox since he was pulled early in an ALCS game ('03?).  And didn't he lose to Beckett in the WS?  And did he see Dicey hit ARod...wasn't ARod's last AB against the Sox the HR off Pablum-bomb?  So Roger's got some scores to settle.  I'm just saying.

Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???

The last thing we need
right now is for Rocket to get suspended again. It went swimmingly the last time we had to give someone a spot start.

And that right there
has been the team's most glaring weakness - there's no one reliable for a spot start.  Most teams have somebody they can throw in there from time to time; not the Yankees.

Link to ESPN's article on the move...
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2995554

Not a bad synopsis, but in referring to the Yanks' youth movement it includes Cano as a "green" hitter.   Really, with 1500 ABs in the bigs?  Robbie's got plenty of seasoning, thanks.

Kennedy vs. Joba
I think the transition will be harder for Kennedy based on his style- hitting spots, needs the corners from the ump which they don't always give to a rookie.  If Joba makes a mistake, velocity can compensate; if a location pitcher misses, it's a bigger problem.
