Game #125 -- New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels

New York Yankees

Johnny Damon,  DH
Derek Jeter,  SS
Bobby Abreu,  RF
Alex Rodriguez,  3B
Hideki Matsui,  LF
Jorge Posada,  C
Robinson Cano,  2B
Andy Phillips,  1B
Melky Cabrera,  CF

Phil Hughes,  RHP  (2-1,  4.44)

Los Angeles Angels

Chone Figgins,  3B
Orlando Cabrera,  SS
Vladimir Guerrero,  RF
Garret Anderson,  LF
Gary Matthews Jr.,  CF
Casey Kotchman,  1B
Howie Kendrick,  2B
Jeff Mathis,  C
Reggie Willits,  DH

Dustin Moseley, RHP  (4-2, 4.84)

Looks like tonight's game is a must win in order to keep pace in the standings with both the Red Sox and Mariners already well on their way to victories.

Hughes has been unhittable on the road in two starts (2-0, 0.73), but not so great in his three starts at home (0-1, 7.71).  Hopefully, this trend will continue for his start tonight and in Detroit this weekend.

Moseley is 0-0, 6.00 in two relief appearances against the Yanks.

The featured graphic for tonight's game is the home jersey logo of the California Angels from 1973 to 1992.

Only 51 pitches for Hughes
which is pretty good considering that long 2nd inning.

Hughes would be better off if he didn't fall so much in love with his curve ball.

A well-placed fastball is still the best pitch in the majors.

Arizona
is slightly different than AL East.

In Chicago in '05, opponents hit .349 against him.

This is me telling you again how not so great he is.

And this is me telling you again that you can find a spot exactly in the middle of the space between his April/May appearances and his July/August appearances, and that's where the real Viz is.

It's 6;15 here in LA, I'm letting Joe sleep in.

Nice way
on trying to make up your own stats.  His avg againts this year is .212, 06 was .215, and 05 was .275.

Viz has been a reliable set up man for a few years now.  Even the strongest Torre supporter would agree his bullpen managment in awful.  You are not even acknowledging that he is bad at it, but defending him for that.  It really hurts many of the good points you make on other topics.

Pride, Power, Cocktease

by ReLaunch on Aug 21, 2007 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oops
I think I was looking at OBP against.  Something in there was .349

Yes, Torre has made shaky decisions with his bullpen since Nelson, Stanton, Mendoza and Stottlemyre left. My feeling is that this more of a product of having lousy arms to choose from than ruining good arms from using them too much.

Shields is a good example. He has an A+ arm.  If Torre was using him the way Scoscia uses him, I would have a problem with that.  Torre has a bunch of D- arms.

Apples and Oranges maybe, but $200 million ought to get you better talent than Villone, Henn, and some of the other losers who have been out there over the years.

Pitch to him

John Sterling is wetting himself at the thought of middle infielders who "put the bat on the ball".
