Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Piazza to Yanks?

Just wondering if Yanks can get Mike as a hired gun for the balance of the season.  His righty bat would fill a hole and most people would say that he is better than Nieves (lol). He was/is on the A's DL, signed for $8.5MM, and we may be able to get him for cash.  Questions about his shoulder and being able to throw, but coming to NY may help the healing process.  Not sure how deep the Piazza/Clemens thing is a problem.  But on the other hand, we cannot afford to let Jorge get fatigued in August/Sept. and I won't be holding my breath every time I see Nieves at the plate.

Ah, no.
What do we need a catcher, or a right-hand power bat? Probably both. Piazzi doesn't really fit the bill on either, anymore. I'd pass.

Nieves has allowed something like
13 consecutive stolen bases, so he's not exactly shutting down the running game either.

I agree
He doesn't have enough pop in his bat to be a DH and we're not giving away what we'd have to surrender to get him just to have him on the bench.

If
he could play first base too I would do it, but we all saw how that turned out.

Pass.

Honest? My bad.
I thought I saw Dioner Navaro steal on him.  It must have been a bad dream.

Nieves is one of the worst defensive catchers I have EVER seen in the big leagues.

Absolutely true
Nieves isn't good at anything, unless "breathing" and "tyings his shoes" have somehow made their way into a scouting report. It is truly sad that our GM thinks he is an acceptable backup.
